Protein Intake & Weight Loss...

Recommended Posts

Gosh! I thought I was the only one with this problem. I am so frustrated every time I get on the scale and it hasn't changed or, just barely. Thanks for the comments.

I had my surgery on 10/10. I went in at 214.5 and at my one week post op was the same! The doc said it was normal, but it sure doesn't seem normal to me. I too want to lose less than 100 lbs, so what you are saying makes sense. Add me to the zero club. The dietitian said something that made sense to me too..."your body has to be comfortable giving up the weight, so that is why the Protein is so important". I do 2 premiere shakes (30 mg each) per day and now get to also add in other Proteins. The Water is the hard part, but I work on it. Thanks for being in this with me!!

Hey treetoplisa!!! We are surgery buddies!!!! Thank you for you posted. I like what your dietician had to say. It made sense. It's nice to hear. It's also really nice to hear that we are all having the same problem. Water is super hard for me to get down too. I'm also doing the Premiere Protein Shakes. How do you like them??? I've only tried Choc. and vanilla. Have you tried the strawberry ones? I was just wondering if they were any good.

Hi KMarie! Great to meet you. I don't care for the vanilla. Haven't tried the strawberry, but I've never seen it in the store either. I get mine at costco. So far Choc is the only one I take regularly. But, I have tried the GNC strawberry and I don't much care for it. My husband made shakes for us pre-op that I hope we can get back to soon. We used a Protein isolate with almond milk and sometimes blueberries etc. I know we have to watch the fruit part now, but it was thicker and allowed for more variety. The Water is the harder part for me. I start the day out fine, but forget as I get busy with things.

A lot of it has to do with how much you have to lose. My goal is almost a hundred' date=' some people need to lose 2-3 hundred. Those people will lose a lot faster than I will. My doc said a reasonable way to look at it is you should be at 50% of total loss by 6 months. It's different for each of us.

Yes and the national average gor wls is 50 to 60 percent of you excess weight. That means if you weigh 200 your excess weight is about 100 pds, but at the weight of 150, yoyr surgery is a complete success. Any extra is up to your body and exercise and eating right..personally. I want to lose 100 percent of my excess...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
