I am 35yo female. I made the decision to have bypass surgery. I only have to do 3 months with dietitian before i'm able to schedule. I had my first appointment yesterday. All the "food stuff " makes me feel overwhelmed. I haven't been to a support group get but I am planning on it. I don't know anyone else going thru this. My fiance is very apprehensive about me doing this. He is all for me getting healthy and hopefully getting better as far as my diabetes and htn. He has just heard all the horror stories and is worried. Any ideas about how to calm his fears?

Thanks!

Take him to the support group meeting with you. So he can see people that have had WLS and ask questions don't be afraid.

Knowledge is a wonderful thing and will help him to support you and understand that when you get thin you won't be leaving him cheating on him, and he can help you though the tuff times that you will be facing.

This is no easy way out it HARD and we need all the help we can get.

My wife and I go to support group meetings every month before and after surgery there we have meet people that are 2-8 years post op and still come to the meetings.

Reserch Reserch Reserch. And ask questions.

Post them here and some one or everyone will do there best to give you great advice.

Listen to what your doctor tells you.

Good luck on your new Journy

Thanks so much! He is definitely my rock. He is just worried about complications and I will feel after. He is also going to all my appointments and meetings with me. Do people tend to go to support groups preop?

As Paul B said... educate yourself and your BF... once he sees and hears all the sccess stories he will be OK. Even show him all the people on this site of all the success !!! RNY is a tool to help you get healthy. Would he rather you stay heavy and unhealthy ? Go thru this together, its nice to have support of your loved ones .

Everyone is different when it comes to WLS. You can educate your self & attend support groups but in reality you can't avoid something going wrong. I don't want to be a bummer but I had surgery everything went well. I did go in thinking positive but prepare for the worst death & complications.

We had a few on here we no longer see because things just went so wrong. They regretted surgery & I cant blame. You can't avoid certain things in life but you can only pray & hope everything turns out perfect.

Also think are you ready to give up junk food soda pizza & all the yummy food that made us fat to begin with?

I went in with own mind & came out a great success. Have a stall now 5 weeks no weight lost but I'm happy:) wishing you all the best.

Yes you can take your mate with you they are most welcome and encourage to attend so that everyone can be informed and hear succes story's and worries.

They will also give you some great advice on what to eat how to eat, how to deal with the Holidays that are coming where everyone cheats on their diets.

I go every month and my wife goes Becuse she tracks down recipes and articles about WLS for everyone their.

So please attend.

Good luck on you up coming surgery

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
