Lying down after eating

Recommended Posts

Last time I went for a fill I received something from the nurse that said not to lay down for 2-3 hours after eating because "food that sits in the pouch for an extended period of time can stretch the pouch."

I wasn't given this rule until over 2 months after surgery.

Anyone else given this advice?

I was not given that advice. I know laying down after eating is never a good idea anyway but not because of the pouch stretching.

I didn't hear that the reason is because of pouch stretching but I was told that lying down too soon after eating can cause the food to sit closer to your esophogus and can result in GERD-like symptoms. How many times do you really eat then lie down? Never, for me. I'd imagine that you're fine.

Never ever heard this from my Dr, or the support meetings that I attend. Im with the question about how often would you lay down after eating anyway? Interesting thought though.

Wow! I guess I'm the only person here who tends to eat late...or maybe I'm just lazy, I dunno.

I'm actually quite tired right now, as it is 11 p.m., but I didn't get to eat until 9:30 tonight, so here I sit on lapbandtalk.com.

:faint:

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
