Help, I Have Been Converted And I Need Help! Im So Confused And Need Advice

Recommended Posts

Hello! I had a sleeve done in April and 4 months out if became kinked and then just on this past Monday 6 days ago i was converted to a Bypass. When I had the sleeve done i could only sip little tiny bit of even Water and it would hurt. It took forever to progress to more liquid and food. Since day one out of my surgery when they would let me drink I was able to drink normal just like I was prior to the surgery, Also i am able to get the pureed food down no issue at all and I NEVER have a full feeling. I dont know if the bypass full is the same and the sleeve full but either way I dont feel full.

Dont get me wrong I dont keep eating but it is rather disturbing that I dont feel anything at all when I eat. It kind of concerns me. Is the food just slipping on through?

I was hoping that someone maybe has experienced this before? I am really anxious about it and am reaching out for help from all of you all.

Thanks.

First of all I am pre op. so take what I say as just somebody who has gleaned info from this site.

It is possible that your pouch is still a bit anesthesized and that any day now this ability you have to drink

and eat so freely will kick you in the chest so to speak. Don't push it of course, as you said you weren't so that is good. But nothing may be wrong at all. Also you may have been way way more miserable then you even realized with the kinked sleeve and you have actually gotten some relief with the Rny conversion. Still take it slow, sip sip sip, take small bites, chew even the pureed foods, and eat slowly and only eat the amounts you are supposed to. You have a lot of healing going on in there. Tomorrow is Monday don't hesitate to call your docs office. They can tell you if this is ok or not.

Just relax today and keep sipping and enjoy the fact that you aren't going to be dehydrated.

I will be praying for you and sending you positive thoughts.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
