Wanda Bragg 8 Posted October 27, 2012 I am new to all the forums and things and I have been reading a lot of them. I was wondering how long did it take for approval for surgery?? I am doing that last of my pre-op testing on Nov 12th. I am hoping to get approval quick but since I have two insurances I dunno. I do know my prim. insurance will deny it due to it not being done in my home hospital. Would it be wise to have them submit it to my seconday insurance first with that insurance I am done with the pre-op things that they wanted me to do. I so can not wait to get the surgery done and start getting back to my self. Thanks for all your input!! Wanda
musicalwonder 34 Posted October 27, 2012 I may be a rare case but it took less than 3 months (including psych eval and classes). Insurance approval, about a week. I have BCBS and my bariatric center said they are one of the easier ins companies. Good luck!!
Wanda Bragg 8 Posted October 27, 2012 Thats who I have for my primary insurance and they are also the ones who will deny my surgery. I also have the state insurance here in IL but I dont know how long it take for approval from them.
musicalwonder 34 Posted October 27, 2012 That sucks. Do you know why they will deny you?
Wanda Bragg 8 Posted October 27, 2012 Yea its all because I wil be having the surgery not at my home hospital. If I was having it at my home hospital it would be covered.

mommy2boys 40 Posted October 31, 2012 I have bcbs il. I meet the Dr the second week in November. Did bcbs il request anything additional from you after you met with your Dr. I'm so anxious just waiting to see what will happen with my insurance.I'm praying for a December date but I don't know if that's realistic... Aimee 17 Posted October 31, 2012 If you know your insurance covers it do you still need approval? I have bcbs of Mi. Sent from my SCH-I535 using RNYTalk

They did not require anything other then the psych Eval and nutritionist appointment. No 3,6 or 12 month diet either. The whole process took me 28 days from first surgeon appointment to day of surgery.
