Hi All you post op's out there... I need a favor... I left my list of Vitamin needs at home today and I wanted to order them online today since I am 13 days out. Can you guys recommend what I'll need to start with and a good place to buy them? oh yeah... while I am asking... aren't there some Vitamins you can't take at the same time you take others? Just wrapping my head around this stuff. Thanks so much!!

Calcium citrate, Vitamin d (I use Bariatric Advantage lozenges in cinnamon- has D and calcium)

iron- I use nature made from any grocery/pharm.

chewable multivitamin- flintstones complete

B1 (thiamine)- any grocery or pharm

sublingual B12- I bought Bariatric Advantage

I also take biotin- completely optional, but good for hair, skin, nails

I was also prescribed prilosec by my surgeon-- double check with your nut, but I assume if yours doesn't prescribe it, you could still take Otc just to protect yourself

As far as timing, you have to space out your multi and Iron from your Calcium by at least 2 hours. You space out your multi and calcium 1dose, 3x a day. I think I covered it all. :)

i think of all the things the Vitamins have me most concerned. I ordered them and set them all out in what I thought was a huge pill container, bright pink with cancer awareness ribbons. and I still need more room. But I am making sure by the end of the day that little box is empty. spacing the multi and the Calcium out. not taking a separate Iron yet till after the doc tells me to post op. But knowing what to take and when and how much, I know they tell you this, buy it seems overwhelming. We can do this though, I know we can.

Here's how I do it. I also was prescribed carafate- I'm almost done with it, I think. But regardless, it has to be an hour away from any food/vitamins. If you don't have to take it, you'll have more leeway.. Obviously you can change the start time if you want to get up earlier/later...

08:30 Calcium

09:30 carafate

10:30 Breakfast 30 mins

11:00 multi, b1

12:00 carafate

1:00 calcium

2:30 lunch

3:00 multi, Prilosec, Biotin

4:00 carafate

5:00 calcium

7:00 dinner

7:30 multi, Iron

8:30 carafate

Just an idea to get you going! :)

I have the app on my phone. That way if I have a question, I have easy access. When I came home from the hospital, I had trouble laying down. I posted the question and got a GREAT answer in minutes. LOL. Technology at it's best.

I take B12 monthly shots at my PCP's office so it's covered by insurance and one fewer tablet to take. Talk to your PCPs, guys

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
