Kaiser Perm Guidelines

Recommended Posts

Hello - brand new to the site and I am wondering if anyone else is dealing with Kaiser Perm? I am so frustrated by all the hurry up and wait b.s. I was told to lose 10% of my total body weight and then my chart could go to the medical case review team. I lost the weight in six weeks but now have to wait another six weeks for the next scheduled case review day. Aaaaaarrrgh. What am I suppose to do while waiting? It is seriously making me nuts.

I am with kaiser perm. I had to do a 12 week class then all the tests. It was hoops but somewhat organized but overall ok. My referral went through and approval went through in the time they told me. I'm in so cal.

I also was told to lose 10% I was 9 pounds shy on the day of surgery but everything was successful. Which I'm grateful. If you have any questions or want to message me with questions feel free:)

Thank you so much! Do you remember how long it was between case review approval and the surgeon's appointment? I am so afraid that my chances of having surgery this are; unlike me; slim to none :(

It was 2 weeks to get approval/referral and then my appointment with surgeon, but on my first appointment in the office I had my surgery date.

Thank you! And anytime you can send me message me with any questions. It didn't seem like a long time to me (and I started in January!) I hadn't made up my mind until I had my surgery date. Then it was real and the days took forever!!!!!!

Have a great day

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
