Chinese Food?

Recommended Posts

Chinese was my absolute favorite. I have tried rice... and no way does my pouch like it. So I dont even go there. But will be interested to hear what some others have tried.

I've tried it. No problems. Just a smaller portion than I used to eat pre op. But it's good to at least get the taste

When my family wants it I tend to stick with Teriyaki beef or chicken on skewers. I will sometimes get also steamed dumplings and basically only eat the insides of them because the dough is too much but, I like the pork stuffing in them. I don't think my stomach could handle anything else really. They use a lot of oil unless you ask for steamed.

Let's see..hot and sour Soup, egg drop soup, egg foo yung, garlic shrimp, ginger beef...no rice, no lo mein, I also do dim sum, but can't do the wrappers. I can do a rice paper fried spring roll, but can only do about a half of one.

I actually agree with mostly everything on this list. I also was able to eat steamed veggies- but got full to fast, lettuce wraps with tofu, and scallops from pf Chang.

No more than 2 months- just chew alot on the sprouts. They may bother you. I did shrimp or veggie egg foo young at first. Try a little, see how it goes. And ask for extra gravy on the side. At most you can only eat a 1/4 or 1/2 a patty so split it with someone. I find it too dry to eat as a leftover.

Maybe the place you go uses MSG? That is what is found in meat tenderizer and makes us puke...

Chinese food is a no-no for me unless the veggies are steamed. All the other non-steamed dishes like egg-fo0 young are extremely high in fat . . . basically the egg-foo is eggs fried in oil loaded with very greasy gravy... which should be avoided at all costs no matter what !!!! Stick to the steamed dishes and order the sauce on the side with no oil.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
