Some how I missed that I would be having the shoulder pain. Yep, it hurt, worse that the band insisions. Dr. Kelly said to keep on top of your pain meds. My pain was in upper left, so lying on my right side with my left arm stretched over my head seemed to help. Also, sitting upright and not leaning against the back of the bed. It took about 6 days for my to really go away. It seemed like the area got smaller, even though pain was at same level. Hope you do well.

Hello out there, I have a question.. Does anyone know how long the left should pain lasts ? I am in the process of getting banded & your all scaring me more w/ the shoulder pain rather than the food issues..

My shoulder pain lasted about 7-8 days. It was the worst from day 3-6. After that it would come back if I ate more than my stomach wanted me to. I would get this, "OK that is enough" feeling and if I did not listen to it, I would pay with about an hour of left shoulder pain.

I am in my 4th week and with the swelling gone am in "bandster hell" waiting for my first fill. Most of the time, using sheer will power to control my eating. Just like being back on a diet except that this time I don't mind it so much because I know that what I lose will stay gone once I get my fill to the right level.

Even though right now is a struggle, I am still optimistic and excited.

Hi everyone ! I am 65 and currently going thru the steps to be banded. I have some questions especially of Carolyn (Ohioraintreeacres) . She is the one closest to my age. I just wondered how you are doing ? I am also going to Dr. Schumacher at Kettering Bariatrics and really like both him and his whole staff. Have you gone to a support meeting yet? I understand that they are very helpful. If anyone else here is close to my age please let me know how things went with you and if you have any regrets. Thanks in advance for the help ! Anne :)

Hi Anne,

A little delayed in responding to your post, but just saw it today. I had my surgery the day after my 66th birthday. I did great. It took me about 10 days to really feel close to normal again, but from reading a lot of the posts on here, many people much younger take that long and longer. I really think it is very individual and that had I done this at a younger age I might have bounced back a little sooner. But I really believe it was worth it. I believe that I will probably lose the weight a little more slowly than those that are younger, but that will probably be better for my skin. I am mostly excited about what the weight loss will do for my health and my ability to be active and not have to "slow down" due to my age. At least it will no longer be my weight that is holding me back.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
