tstevens28 9 Posted October 21, 2012 I know both are bad- but why? Sensitive pouch?? Stretch it out?? Or just leads to bad habits?? I miss carbonation..
Vicki Loichinger 444 Posted October 21, 2012 what i know about the carbonation is it can stretch your pouch but also it is painful. I have a lap band going to revise to rny Nov 7. I have not had soda in seven years. THe couple of times that someone wanted me to taste a new one, one sip and it is very painful, at least with the band. I would imagine the same with our pouch. THe caffeine is a diruatric and you are trying to stay hydrated. Also it has been said the teh caffeine can cause ulcers in our new pouch. Different doctors have different rules. But it seems most say these are a no no, I thought I would never be able to give up Diet Pepsi, but I did. Moving from caffeine to half caff to decaff during pre op/ That might prove harder than the soda. lo.
kristy3k 1,133 Posted October 21, 2012 Research isnt conclusive but google it or talk to anyone that has gained back weight after gastric bypass and they will most likely site one of the two or both. How much is carbonation worth to you? I for one wont risk it. It's a personal choice for each of us... but only you can weigh the options.
lili2012 85 Posted October 22, 2012 I miss caffein because I need to stay up late & finish my writing/grading. Took only two smalls since my surgery, and one of them really hurt. So am giving it up. Soda! NOWAY. WON'T TOUCH IT no matter what. Not worth it Sent from my Galaxy S III using RNYTalk

rabrijumo 140 Posted October 22, 2012 My doc said caffeine was allowed after 1 month post op
zucchero75 3 Posted October 22, 2012 I love my Starbucks lattes. I have a tall non fat 1 Splenda latte. I treat myself once a week. I was never told to completely cut caffeine out of my diet. I have reduced, but not eliminated. I have already cut all sweets, couldn't possibly cut my coffee.< /p>
Butterfly66 63 Posted October 22, 2012 What about caffeine in tea? Hot or cold?
itzme752 24 Posted October 23, 2012 Caffeine in tea is the same as coffee. They do make Decaf tea. I had some before surgery because I love iced tea and couldn't tell too much of a difference. I have not had any since surgery though cause I always had it with sweet and low and I'm afraid how my pouch will react to it. My nutritionist said that caffeine also effects the absorption of Calcium in the body so that's another reason to drink it in moderation or avoid it altogether if you can. PhotoChic 70 Posted October 23, 2012 What about caffeine in tea? Hot or cold? I've had plain regular Lipton tea! SD: 10/10/12, Converted from Lapband to RNY, HW (before band) 263, HW (RNY) 230, Preop 219, after surgery 223, current
kiwiladydee 402 Posted October 23, 2012 Since I stop drinking cokes before the surgery I do not have the same craving for coffee. I do like a sugar free latte once a month, but can only drink about 1/4 of a tall. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
BBdoodle 483 Posted October 23, 2012 I was a diet pepsi lime addict before surgery, the only thing I drank was carboniated diet soda. After surgery it was not that hard to give it but. Not that I did not miss it because I do. I drink caffinated lipton tea packets you put in your Water. I'm 6 months post op, I have had some soda but only sips here and there. I'm not missing much.. they now taste very chemically. I hate drinking plain water.
