Good afternoon all. Just wanted to introduce myself.. My name is Jen, my surgery date is 10/29. I am having the bypass. I have been on this journey since January of this year and I can't believe it's almost here :) I am in CT, surgeon is dr barba. Goal is to lose 100 lbs.

just found out at my endoscopy that I also have a hernia that needs to be repaired. Has anyone else dealt with this?

I am currently doing my 2 week pre-op diet and today I feel like I am STARVING! Just looking for the support of those who share the same goals and struggles ..

Welcome aboard. liquid diet is the toughest time, at least it was for me. Take Protein shakes to keep you full for long.

Hi there! I just had my bypass 6 days ago and they found a hiatal hernia during the surgery. They repaired it and I have to say the hernia was some of the worst pain I e ever felt. Be prepared to ask for pain meds. It takes away from the bypass pain but for the first 3 days the hernia was the major pain I felt. It seems to be mostly gone now and I still have some pain from the stitches and surgery but it is mild and very controllable. It is best they get the hernia fixed but its not an easy few days. P.S. 6 days out and I'm down 8.5 lbs even with everything they pumped into me at the hospital. :)

Thanks jenilynn for the info.. Been dealing with such horrible heartburn for so long I am sure that the pain of having the darn hernia fixed will be well worth it!!

Congrats in your current weight loss! Way to go!

Thanks jny same too you!! I go in the morning for my pre op. I am sure starting Wednesday I will be on a liquid diet.

I am on the 2 week preop liquid diet.. So many Protein shakes! But I am hanging in there! I did my preop visit to the hospital.. I see my surgeon one last time before surgery on Wednesday. I honestly can't wait until this week is over. The anxiety is killing me ;)

My pre op is a 2 hour educational class with the nurse practitioner and I think from there I go to the hospital to register and speak to anesthesiologists. I don't think I will see the surgeon again till day of

It's so amazing how different all the surgeons are and the way the process is. I have read some don't have preop liquid diet.. Some do. Kinda makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
