BBdoodle 483 Posted October 18, 2012 I lost the majority of my weight 40 lbs without exercise. Surgery date 4/09/12 beginning weight 214 now 171, goal weight is 140. I was at a stand still for the past like 2 months. I have been working out like crazy for the past 2 months and my weight finally started dropping again. It was strange because my clothes that were once tight are loose but the scale did not move for a good long time. You first need to be cleared for exercise by your surgeon. I would be very specific on what exercise you want to do. At first my doctor said walking only. Then at 2 months post op he said that I can do anything I wanted. It took me a while to start jogging/running again. Everyone is different and losses in their own time and way. I thought I would be way further along than 43 lbs. at 6 months post op. but my dr. said I was doing great and that people who have less than 100 lbs to loose will loose it at a slower rate. I am eating and exercising according to plan.
Ellie_Grace 271 Posted October 18, 2012 Sorry I have always exercised, so I can not help you there. I started with walking the day of surgery (increased in length overtime and on the treadmill etc to higher intensity) and moved to the bike by 1 month (when cleared for it) then after the next month I added in the ellipitical and weights. I have lost 72 pounds at 4 months. 44 more pounds to go. Good luck!

bikinibound 6 Posted October 20, 2012 Not trying to be mean in anyway but why would you subject yourself to such a surgery when you only have 70 lbs to loose?!? That is mean!!!!!!! 70lbs to loose is a lot of weight. Weighing over 200lbs isn't healthy for any body. It is a hard decision for anyone to make to have this surgery. It is not ok for you to question anyone else's decision on a SUPPORT site. I weighed 225 pre surgery and am 144 at 7 months out. Not an easy decision for me to have had the surgery and a struggle just like everyone else. 6 Cherry, indianarny765, musicalwonder and 3 others reacted to this

irshangel 13 Posted October 20, 2012 Not trying to be mean in anyway but why would you subject yourself to such a surgery when you only have 70 lbs to loose?!? My opinion on this is based on years of yo-yo dieting, I finally said enough is enough . No matter what amount we need to loose, there are other underling Heath issues that will be cleared up. Everyone has different amounts to loose, we are here because we have all struggled wether it is 70 or 200 pds. Good luck to all.
treetoplisa 5 Posted October 29, 2012 Thanks for the comments on this topic. I'm new to this group and had surgery on Oct 10. Every morning I get on the scale and am so disappointed that I'm still fat! Expected to see faster weight loss. But, then I make myself think rationally, and remember that it really is just math. Each lb. is 3200kcal. and so it doesn't really make sense for me to lose 10 lbs overnight. Still wish it would happen though! Thank goodness I can't go backwards...only forward. Regarding the choice to have the roux-en-y: I have been up and down with weight all my life. So much of my mindpower has been wasted on the the whole weight/food/eating thing, it's been exhausting. Life is short, and even shorter if you have medical problems...many of which can be corrected or prevented with one of the bariatric surgeries. Anyone that entertains the thought and actually goes for it has obviously gotten to the point where they just can't deal with it on their own anymore. kiwiladydee 402 Posted October 29, 2012 I never understood the size issues for people under 200 since I was always approaching 300 pounds! However, my sister was a model for years wearing size 0 and 2 and after 3 kids and 15 years she couldn't lose the weight. She's 180 and runs 5 miles a day but has ups and downs just like me. I think everyone is use their own idea of what their body size should be. Loosing any weight at all is challenging. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
