Fear is normal. I vomited all the way to the hospital pre-op out of stress before surgery. I am not post-op. It was hard. I'm now spending my 4th night in the hospital. I'm still glad I did it. It is normal to be scared. Even in the pre-op room when my IV was started I told my surgeon and the nurses I was scared. And they assured me it was normal. It helped me a lot to express that fear and it helped me to hear reassurance from my surgeon and the nurses. I wish I could say something to take the fear away. I can only empathize. My sister is a surgical nurse and does surgery every day. And she, also, gets scared if she is the one having surgery. My own PCP had a brain tumor and he was scared before his surgery. It's completely normal.

I wishing you the greatest of successes!

I can report it really is not that bad. The pain is manageable and the catheter removal is a nonevent. Hang in there!!

I was dreading the catheter but the removal was no big deal. And right after surgery I was grateful for the catheter. The anesthesia made it impossible for me to urinate. The catheter was absolutely essential. I certainly did not enjoy it, but it really wasn't that bad.

I have found the hardest part post surgery is the bloated feeling from the gas pain. Apart from that the pain has been manageable. The nurses at my hospital have all been wonderful - all are nice, all work hard and all of them ask, "is there anything I can do for you before I leave?" The nurses make such a difference.

I work in surgery as a surgical technician, I'm scheduled December 17, I'm not worried about the catheter they usually put that in when your asleep before the surgery, now the surgery I'm freaked out about, I don't get to see the results of the successful surgeries, but see the results of patients having to come back with problems, not that that happens often but it does happen. I just filled a script for Ativan for the day before and day of! I think it has a lot to do with the fear of the unknown and recovery, scared of failing, etc.

I am pretty terrified myself. I probably won't have a date until February and I've been crying a lot lately. Logically I know it's normal and I just want to get on with it all. It's a big decision and once you make it, you have a lot of time to mull over all that could go wrong before it happens.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
