I don't drink much but it's ok in moderation. Besides the fact that it's fattening, you don't want to risk getting sick and throwing up. So I say, go for it, have fun, just be careful.

I drink wine and cocktails within moderation. Tend to get tipsy faster b/c of low calorie intake. But when I am too tight to eat, having a glass of wine helps to relax me and I find that I can tolerate food a little better. Just make your best judgement and count the calories in to your total intake.

All things in moderation. Just remember if you drink too much you can throw up and that would not be good. Also due to to the calorie's the alcohol always seemed to land on my butt -- be careful....

I second what everyone else is saying - definitely go slow and drink alcohol in moderation - you will most likely notice a very significant drop in tolerance - i tried not drinking for 60 days and didn't drop any weight so i just drink in extreme moderation - maybe 1-2 glasses of wine once or twice a week -

My doc made us sign a contract that we wouldn't drink for a year post-band. I was told that alcohol causes the body to produce cortisol which contributes to belly fat. A glass of wine with dinner once in a while probably won't do anything but having alcohol on a semi-regular basis is something I was told would interfere with weight loss. Don't shoot the messenger! I'm just adding what I was told!!

WOW! A contract?? That is serious. I was banded on August 1st and do drink occassionally, but there is no beer anymore. :) BUT on the plus I get drunk (close to it) on 2 drinks.

How soon has anyone had alcohol post op? I admit my social drinking habits were a little extreme. i'm in my 30's and I'm quite a partier. Not having any kind of alcohol in about 3 weeks is killing me. Is it too soon for me to have a glass of wine or something? Anything? Or maybe a pina colada! whew!

I have absolutelly no problem with alcohol. I drink on the weekends when i go out and the only different thing is the tolerance, in other words i get drunk with almost nothing. Take it slow and always drink with moderation (and don't drive hehe)

I am not a big drinker and have avoided beer because of the caronation, but I did have a shot of tequilla when I hit the 100 pounds lost mark and a couple shots of Jeigermeister on New Years. The only thing I need to be carefull of is that because of my infrequent drinking of lower weight, it doesn't take much to get a buzz going

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
