BBdoodle 483 Posted October 11, 2012 I am a big salad person and just love salads. But after surgery they just scared me for some reason. I did not want to waste the room in my pouch on low nutritional food, I was told to eat Protein first. So I started about 4 months post op eating salad with grilled chicken etc., I ate the chicken first then the salad. 1 jenneliza reacted to this

JustJenn 542 Posted October 11, 2012 I started 4 weeks out I love a good salad! But its not worth it, no nutritional value and takes up room for Protein. If it has Protein I'm full without eating any actual lettuce! Lol Surgery 7/25/
Tammy483 162 Posted October 11, 2012 I don't know why people say salads have no nutritional value, salads have loads of Vitamins and fibre that our body needs. There's no harm in eating a bit of veggies with your Protein. The rule of GBS is to eat healthy and lose weight. Yes, protein helps but that's not all your body needs.. JustJenn 542 Posted October 11, 2012 Yeah I don't know why the doctor would encourage us to not bother with salad. But if your limited to the amount you can eat why waste it with lettuce? But its good and good for you. Surgery 7/25/

Tammy483 162 Posted October 11, 2012 salad doesn't necessarily mean only lettuce. Iceberg lettuce doesn't have much nutrition wise, but its got enough fibre to keep your system clean. So if you can consume a salad which has raw veggies like tomatoes, cucumbers, carrots, celery, peppers, beetroot, turnips etc its great, and I don't mean stuff yourself.. I eat a bite of salad for every 2 bites of Protein.. Haven't had any issues so far.. 1 JustJenn reacted to this
