I know food is our addiction or we wouldnt be here. I have heard that when you have an addiction and then you fix that addiction you start another one. Because as humans we do that to lean on something self gratification. For you folks who have had the food addiction and have had surgery and no longer are addicted to food. Have you seen your self get another one like shopping, drinking, smoking. maybe even exercise?

Exercise somewhat....but my biggest new addiction is reading....I swear my kindle is with me at all times....and a good way to pass the time on the treadmill. Oh yeah and this forum!!!! As long as their not harmful I'm not worried about them :-)

I would hope that exercise will be my new addiction, i have had so many in my past. And conquer them all. But food was my friend. But of all my addictions i think food harmed me the most.

I too have a very addictive personality. But lately feeling so poorly and having such a hard time with asthma and diabetes I have lost interest in most everything. I am hoping post op I will feel better and pick up some old interests that were addictive like decorative painting and reading.

Right now my addiction is this board and my obsession is waiting for the call that I am approved for surgery a revision from lap band to rny. .

Also hope exercise will become one.

But really hoping bad ones do not,

It is something we all need to be aware of.

Well when I try to lose weight I shift addictions. Shopping and being obsessed with the scale are major ones. I must have three or four full closets of all different sizes right now. I'll have clothes until I'm a 16 lol. So that's good I guess. I am now addicted to this board too. :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
