Oh please don't even consider taking it up again. I started again in the 2nd year. Bad idea. Here I am trying to walk, exercise, be all healthy with a cigarette hanging out of my face. I was really stupid, please do not do it.

I agree.....why would you want to start up again? Its like us that gave up drinking...we dont like it but its Drs orders. But smoking like joyfulinga said its one of the unhealthest habits there is thats legal. So be strong....if you can have this surgery and give up as much as you have with it...you can deny smoking. Be strong!

I quit two years ago as i was tired of hacking and needed to do serious prep for rny. I just had surgery 2weeks ago. I know i will never start smoking again...but i also know that it is always there in the back of my mind.

Dont beat yourself up for thinking about it...but if you just weigh the consequences (which you know as well as i do as former smokers) i am sure you will decide not to start. You are strong as you have proven by taking on this life challenge of wls. Embrace life!

Ive been told smoking leads to strictures and is really dangerous post op because of the stoma

Honestly i did start smoking again after surgery. I know bad. But no matter what we do in life there is always a risk to it. I don't condone it. But you're an adult and have to make you own decisions.

Someone on here got a ulcer from smoking. Your right about being an adult but that's life. It's like someone wanting to know what is like to 100 lbs have surgery lose 100lbs then says hey I want 5 donuts stretch your pouch & gain back 100lbs in 6 months.

I understand what you're saying. But, we as adults have to make our own decisions. If someone decides to eat 5 donuts than that is a decision that they have to live with. There are risks to any surgery. And you know as well as I do that not everyone has or will have complications. Everything we do in a life is a chance we all take. Even if surgery wasn't involved. Ulcers can happen even if you don't smoke. No one is ever guarenteed 100% perfection. We all have our vices. I do appreciate your input though.....

I quit smoke the evening before surgery. I was told to quit 2 wks before but I wanted to smoke up until the last moment before. To be honest with you I really don't miss it only when I have a drink or a glass of wine or if someone I know is having a smoke I would love to join them. However... I feel 100% better that I am not smoking - I can breath so much better, I don't stink like smoke, I am saving $9.00 a day which I can now put towards new clothes :)

Please don't go back to smoking you have come this far why turn back. Plus smoking can cause lots of problems after RNY surgery... its really not good for you. Please reconsider !!

Why in the world would you pick it up again after successfully quiting?! I quit and love not spending the money, smelling like SHIT all the time and not having cigarettes rule over my life. LET ALONE how much it hurts you physically and can destroy your pouch. Smoking is the most idiotic thing you can do next to eating cake.

Kaylee,

You are one of my favorite people to see post on here... you just tell it like it is. Seriously yes we are all adults... but make the right decision for once. Smoking killed my dad... just like obesity would have killed me had I not had surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
