My surgeon recommended Miralax to my mother when she had trouble going and passing gas after her surgery.

It worked like a charm and she never had trouble again. But it is NOT immediate. It takes a couple of days to work.

I have used it probably twice a year since my surgery if I feel like I'm getting "backed up" or having a few days where I can't go for whatever reason. It always works for me no trouble. It's the just WAITING for it to work that sucks. LOL (Oh... and the way you have to disolve it in liquid... imho there's no hiding that thickness which grosses me out too. lol)

Good luck!

Keep in mind I am pre op, but do have a band. I go through times when I remember and drink it in my coffee every morning. Everyone is correct it isn't quick but if you use it daily it can help you be pretty regular. But I was wondering myself if after rny we could use it.

I don't notice it in my coffee at all.

reminds me think I need to go add some, been having some trouble myself lately. Lol

Years ago when you would hear ADULTS talk about their bowel movements or lack there of, I thought that was the strangest thing, don't think it is strange now. A person has to poop just has to.

I have had miserable Constipation since rny in May. Dr recommended miralax after suffering for 3 months. It took 4 days but it works well. I just dont know how to get off. I suddenly feel so much better I do not want to stop. It has made me so much lighter feeling and I suddenly felt thinner. Crazy eh,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
