Expected Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Surgery soon. 88 lbs to lose. Been trying to find an idea of how much initial weight I can expect to lose, so that I have something to aim for, but the numbers I read are vastly different ?? Ideas pleaseplease. Or is there a rough formula that i can use that might help.

Anyways thanks in advance

Generic Answer Warning****

Honestly everyone body is different, that answer is usually best given by your surgeon and nutritionist. Also heavily depends on your diet, some people have the surgery and don't follow the diet. They don't consume the recommended Protein or don't keep up with their supplements. It's so many factors that it can be impossible to come up with an expected weight loss. I am sure your doctors go based on your medical history, genetics, eating habits etc... To give a suggestion for your expected weight loss.

lester losing i such an individual thing. Good thing men seem to lose faster than woman. But you will lose more in the beginning and then a bit slower but as long as you follow the rules and get some exercise in you will lose. I could venture to guess that you will have that 88 pounds gone in the first year. Just a guess.

Generic answers indeed :-)

I know that people!!!. Was going for some actual numbers from everyone. Should have been more specific and not expected people to get what I meant

My bad.

Then look at the "Friday weigh in" topics. Most everyone on this forum post results there. If that's all your asking for.

For me I needed to lose 120 pounds to be at doctor recommended hight and weight scale for my age group as of today I have lost 61 lbs 46 lbs from date of surgery and 15 before surgery. Doctor says we should shot for 165 but may not be health at that weight may have to stop around 175-180 depending on how much I work out and build muscle at gym.

Good luck

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
