Average Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

Surgery soon. 88 lbs to lose. Been trying to find an idea of how much weight I can expect to lose, so that I have something to aim for, but the numbers I read are vastly different ?? Ideas please. Or is there a rough formula that i can use that might help.

Anyways thanks in advance

It's up to you. Did you try the BMI? I did & it put me at 125 for 5 foot so that's what my goal is.

The BMI only says what I should be. Not really what I asked but thanx anyway.

Would be nice to know what others lost in their first couple of months, or so.

If you put in BMI it tells you the weight in number form for your height etc. I am at 4 months tomorrow and have lost almost 70 pounds. I started at 261 and am 5'5". My goal is 145,which was 116 pounds to lose and dr said it a reasonable goal. It falls at the top range of the healthy BMI. Keep in mind the less you have to lose the slower it might come off. But in a year at longest you should meet your goal. What is your height? What is your current weight and goal?

I am 5'10

I am at 286 now

And i would like to be 200

So obviously 86 ish gives me where I would like to be ;)

Then the next obvious question is when I get to my weight goal. Can the restriction be removed or deflated or something ?? Wouldn't want to waste away to just skin, bones and sperm ;)

I wonder that when I reach my goal do I stay or do I keep slimming down.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
