I am considering Lap Band surgery and going through the pre-surgery qualification process. I am optimistic about the prospect of substantial long-term weight loss. I know quite a few people that have had gastric by-pass with mixed results and significant and even fatal complications. I don't think I would ever consider that option but I like the less invasive aspects of the Lap Band. Any advise anyone could offer a "seeker" would be welcome.

Thats exactly why I would never consider gastric and welcomed Lap band into my life. Along with exercise , the band has changed me to a "normal" size person from being the big woman . It feels good.

I would say that the best advice I could give you is to spend some serious time reading all the threads on this board........ there is SO much info on here, and many of the questions get asked over and over again, because new people frequent this intro thread daily.... so a lot of newbies get pushed to other pages.....

The FAQ's are wonderful, the Post Op shopping list is right now posted on my fridge..... jump in and post often and again... read, read, read...

I've found this board is mostly used by us prebanded and newly banded, with some WONDERFUL Vetrans thrown in.......... but for the most part the vetrans are out living their lives as the band has just become part of them now.

Yep, Tracy is giving good tips for u. I didn't find this forum until i was newly banded. I learned alot from just reading everyones posts. I was banded in Monterrey Mexico (self pay) by a great doc. I've lost only 19lbs but I'm a slow loser. But I ok with that. I know its gone for good. Just don't expect immediate results. It is a lot slower than the bypass but I feel it's healthier that way.. by the way I love my band. Keep us posted on what u r gonna do. Kelley

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
