Days Like Today?

Recommended Posts

It's days like today that make me wonder how I'm ever going to cope with a pouch. I've been hungry (?head hunger) beyond belief today, and have eaten anything and everything in sight. I am pre op, so need to know that pat op I won't have the uncontrollable hunger. I'm so sick of eating for who knows what reason.

My (old) stomach still makes hungry noises! I still have head hunger or craving but most of the time I need to schedule my meal times because I'm not hungry. Your body will sing a different song once you are post op.

OH I HEAR YOU! I am ALWAYS hungry for no reason most of the time. I am SO hoping the pouch helps control the hunger and least until I can get a grip on it. At least I can't eat as much and I am terrified about stretching it out. To get through the preop I have been on appetite suppressants. Sad huh?? But I only was losing about a pound a month and following the diet plan. I couldn't risk accidently eating a piece of pizza and gaining it back. lol Hang in there!!! WE CAN DO THIS!!

The surgery is a great tool to be sure but the mind still is a hard thing to overcome. It clicked with me about the 2nd month... This is a chance of a lifetime to get fit and healthy... make the most of it!!

Do all you can to work on the reasons why you eat when you're not hungry. Head hunger is one of the toughest to beat and the games it plays. I did work with a therapist before surgery and now even after. To learn techniques on what to do when head hunger hits....why it hits and how to recognize true hunger from head hunger. It's not easy but, do-able :)

Lots of books out there that are helpful as well. Fortunately after surgery....the feeling of hunger does ease up. I don't have to fight it as much...now it's learning to schedule eating so I remember to eat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
