Worried About My Pouch

Recommended Posts

I just had a Wendy's small chilli with cheese. I was able to eat the whole thing. So, I'm worried that my pouch is stretched because the pouch is the size of an egg, walnut or a thumb. How can I eat all of it with no issues?

The liquid part of Soup and chili goes through the pouch quicker than the chunks of food. I know the Wendy's chili here has a good amount of broth and not all chunky. If yours was like that then that might be why you could eat it. But also take into Consideration that before surgery we all probably had a large chili with a big sandwich and a drink so you're still eating much less than u did before.

I had moments like that in the beginning. I was told that your pouch is still healing, therefore the nerve endings that tell you that you're full aren't fully functioning yet. Believe me, the full feeling will come in due time. When I was having that issue, I would premeasure my food or just stop eating at a certain point.

Yep. Like I said, I still have days where I feel that I'm not getting full. I just stop eating when I've had enough. Getting my Protein Shake first thing in the morning really helps, though. Days I don't get it in the morning, I feel hungrier.

I wouldn't worry too much about one meal. There are just too many variables to draw any meaningful conclusions. Might be better to focus your attention and your energy on maintaining a food log so that you can track your calorie, fat, carb and Protein numbers (which requires that you know or estimate the amount of food that you're eating for each meal). That really puts you in the driver's seat and takes a lot of needless worry and stress out of your life. If you're hitting all of those numbers (or coming close) based on your doctor's recommendations, you'll be just fine!!

Hi Ellody!

I have been eating Wendy's chili for several months. I'm 5 mo. Post op. I can tolerate the large size with no problems. I limit myself most of the time to a small, but I've lost 75 lbs and the Dr's office is happy with my loss, so I wouldn't worry about it.

My doctor explained to me that in the beginning our pouch is larger but as it heals it becomes tighter due to scar tissue and healing. Do after 3 weeks or so we may more restriction as we eat

You're welcome. I like answering question about my ordeal. I haven't had any issues other than dehydration for a day. Therefore, I like to show people that this surgery doesn't mean, "I can't eat this, I can't eat that, I'll never be able to do/eat/drink this again." I still enjoy going out with my friends/family to restaurants like I did at first. I have wine occasionally. I've never dumped. I just vomited for the first time this week (took my Calcium too soon behind dinner, lol) So, keep your head up and don't worry about the negatives. #HopeForTheBest..........ButAlwaysPrepareForTheWorst.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
