Dr. Spivak's patients .....

Hey guys,

It's getting close to the end of the year. I was wondering if any of you claimed the cost of your surgery on your taxes last year and if you were successful in getting some money back?

I have wondered the same thing . . .

I did mine last year. You can only write off your medical bills exceeding 7.5% of your income. So I did...surgery, travel, meds, supplies.

I really liked Ms. Patricia!!! I'm so disappointed!

Me TOO! It was soooo wierd - I was there on a Tuesday and had a fill but needed more, so I called the following Tuesday, asked for Patricia and was promptly told 'she doesn't work her anymore . . . ' I said, 'excuse me?' Again, 'she doesn't work here anymore, can I help you???' I was so shocked and disappointed . . . And perplexed ???

I asked Leslie what happened, but didn't get any info from her.

I don't think I ever met Patricia- only brenda or leslie have done my fills (primarily leslie- brenda filled me once when leslie had some problems hitting my port)

Ms. Patricia is the African American lady that always had a smile and kind word for everyone. Typically, she was the one who weighed me and set me up before going to a room. I really liked her she was so sweet!

Oh, THAT's Patricia!!! She was VERY nice and calmed me down on my pre-op weigh in visit. I was a bundle of nerves.

Now I remember her. I guess I just didn't know her name. Yes, she was always very nice. I got the impression she had been there a long time. I wonder what happended. When someone leaves to go to a higher paying or more prestigious job, the old co-workers will usually tell you. But if someone gets fired, that's when you get "she doesn't work here anymore" and nothing else.

Yeah - I definatley (sp?) got the feeling something had happened . . . I was there and everything was FINE exactly ONE week before . . . It just makes me sad - she was always so awesome to me.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
