Just checking in here all...

I was completely unfilled because my pouch was slightly stretched on May 21st. I just went back in for a re-fill on June 28th. I had gained too much weight, and I was really disappointed... Got 1 cc put back in and I haven't weighed since. Got hubby to hide the scales... which is fine by me.

I am back in my size 6 jeans, and that is all I wanted.

The new gal did my fill, well, she tried to. My port was COMPLETELY upside down. She tried 2 times and then called good ole Brenda in there and she got it after another 3 times. They almost called Spivak in to do it. It was horrible! Not their fault though, just that dang port.

Spivak poked his head in and said Hi. He just seems to care so much about his patients. I really am glad he is my Dr.

Hi everyone ~

I have been trying to decide if I need a fill and have now managed to get myself worked into a tizzy over it . . .

How do you KNOW if you have proper restriction? What does it feel like? Can you eat just about anything you want, just very small amounts of it?

I have been banded almost 6 months and have only lost about 30 pounds. I don't eat bread, Pasta, etc. but can eat just about anything else as long as I chew it really well and eat slowly. It took me longer than most I think to figure that out, but now that I have, I think I am eating too much . . . How do you know???

I really want to kick this weight loss into high-gear, but don't know if I am just being impatient. I think I have 1.8 in my 4.0 band, but haven't lost an ounce in at least 6 weeks.

I am planning to call in the morning and try to talk to Brenda, but I don't know . . .

Any thoughts friends???

Thanks in advance for your input ~

Lynn

Hi Lynn,

What I would suggest first is to track your calories on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal or Calorie Counter, Diet Tracking, food Journal, Nutrition Facts at The Daily Plate for a few days. You may be simply eating too many calories! I just had my 3rd fill a week ago and I can eat just about anything as long as I chew real well, but I sure can't get much in! For instance, this afternoon I had about 2 oz. of hamburger and 3 tbsp of potato salad and 3/4 c. of salad. I was so stuffed I had to go for a walk! Now, I KNOW I've got good restriction because I get so full so easily ....and I stay satisfied for at least 3 hours. Any more I'd be PBing all the time. Any less and I'd be eating twice that much and getting hungry within 2 hours. solid food is the most satisfying.

I hope that helps.

Thank you for responding Terry.

I think I am going to try to follow 'the rules' a little closer and see if that helps. Having not lost an ounce in forever, my frustration is at an all time high. I have a feeling though that the problem is with me, not my band.

Thanks again,

Lynn

Okay, I just called and talked to Brenda and I am going in this afternoon. I just feel like I need a little boost in my fill, so hopefully that will help.

As I have read on here before, if I could have done this on my own I wouldn't have paid for the band, so I want to maximize the benefit of having it. Hopefully it won't be too much and I'll get started on the losing track.

Thanks,

Lynn

Absolutely! Getting my 3rd fill was a bit of a tough decision, too. I could have made do with the restriction that I had but I thought it could be a bit better. My 3rd fill was just 0.2cc! It doesn't take much to make a significant difference. Good luck & please let me know how you're doing!

Hi Terry ~

I went in this afternoon and got a small fill. I was under the impression that I only had 1.8cc's in there, but Leslie was able to get 2.0cc's out - ??? She decided on a small fill of 2.2cc's to see if that will help get me started again. I did not see Dr. Spivak today; I was finished before he came in.

I hope the fill helps . . . At least I am getting better with having the fills and don't almost fall out of the chair anymore! :clap2:

I'll keep you all posted; thanks for your help.

Oh, and I was very pleased with Dr. Spivak's new nurse, Leslie. She was able to access my port the first time even though she said it is a little tilted due to the weight loss.

Oh good!! I hope it helps you. I definitely notice a difference with just those 0.2cc, and I bet you will, too.

I just got a fill of .2 ccs yesterday and it has made a huge difference. I am now at 3.1 and I now feel exactly like I did after surgery. Not hungry, get full easily, etc. I am hoping this feeling lasts pasts the initial few days

Have they filled you with Omnipaque or are you still with saline? I'm on Day 9 after my 3rd fill and the restriction is holding well.

I have omnipaque - I lost all but .2 cc's of my saline fill so they switched me to the omni

Do you recall what Dr. Spivak recommends after you've PB'd?? I don't recall anythiing about that. I've been having a hard time for the past few days and I'm gonna stick with fluids today-- but that's because of advice I've gotten here on LBT, not from Spivak.

Hi Terri ~

Although I have that problem quite often too, I have never asked Dr. Spivak what to do about it . . . I have read liquids for 24 hours after a PB, but honestly unless it is a really bad episode, I don't usually stick to that for very long.

Hope you feel better soon ~

Lynn

I was banded back on Feb. 28 and I’ve had 3 fills so far. I've had all of my fills at the Surgery Center where I had the surgery. I had been going there b/c at my first fill Dr. Spivak said to keep going to the Surgery Center b/c they didn't have the fluoro yet at his office. Since he has one now are we supposed to go to his office or are ya'll still going to the Surgery Center?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
