Mine wanted 5 weeks, so I took it. It helped me get my mind right about eating before I went back to work ( where a lot of bad eating habits got started)

Good luck to all you "LOSERS"

I had surgery on a Tuesday, went back the following Monday. I am a high school teacher. I took things slow, lots of sitting, no lifting etc. I think I recovered much quicker because I did not become inactive and wait to feel better I just went on with my life careully.

I asked off for 2weeks but ended up taking 1more. I would of actually liked another but was afraid for my job. I had it kinda rough so if I were you I'd prepare for some hard times. You can always go back early.

IF you can afford to take the six weeks and your job will be ok with it, take it. You will have so much more energy and strength and a good routine down with food and supplements. Just be sure to be active when you should.

Or possibly if you are feeling wonderful wonderful wonderful, and your job and doc would allow try going back half days or shorter week, week five and six, ease back into it so to speak.

I plan on only taking 2 weeks off from work. My job is not really physical just a lot of up and down being a lab tech and a phlebotomist. After my hysterectomy I only willingly(sp?) took a week off then had problems with my surgial site not staying closed (im allergic to steri strips) so my doc called my work to inform them I would be out another week at least. :( LOL

I agree with you! I had surgery on friday, home on Saturday .. work on Wednesday. Sure I was stiff and sore. But if I sat in a recliner or laid in bed for any amount of time I felt way worse. I had to keep moving. I know everyone is different and heals different but this was they way I felt. Good luck!

I'm taking 6 weeks. I'm a nurse in a hospital and do patient care. I have an incision that was infected and I had to keep it open to drain. It is just now starting to close and I am at 4 weeks. I really want it healed before I go back to germ-land! The job is physically demanding too, but I think I would be ok at this point if not for the pain of the incision.

I took of 3 weeks but am going back to work after 2. I had 2 surgeries and was stuck in the hospital for 5 days. This past week I had a complete turn around. I still have pain on my left side but I feel great!

I was going to take 5 days everyone is telling me I should take more. Waiting for the doctor to let me know! What do you think?

I plan on taking 4 weeks but depending on what my surgeon thinks it could be longer. I am lucky though because my work is very supportive they are willing to let me stay out as long as I need. I think I might drive myself crazy staying home longer than 4 weeks but I want to make sure I am healed and ready.

I get 13 days off. Not by doctor orders but work requirements. Fortunately, its mostly office work and meetings. But this is my only window of opportunity at least through next September of 2013, so Im going for it!

I was in the hospital for 5 days after surgery. I was excessively tired, I couldn't have imaged going back so soon. I took six weeks, my job is very physical. I've been back to work two weeks now and I'd have to say it was the perfect amount of time. I really needed the afternoon naps I was taking after surgery. Rest is vital for a good recovery.

I'm a phlebotomist too and was planning on taking 2 weeks off, but going back sooner if I feel better. It's nice to know of another phleb doing this too :(

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
