Need Advise For Athletes

Recommended Posts

Have played soccer all my life. I was really excited to play this season due to the weight loss. I was playing last season at my heavist weight of 256, and i seemed faster an more powerul. I saw myself sprinting faster my kicks would be harder and so on after the surgery. However I have noticed that it is the opposite. I am currently playing on three teams and each week I feel like my kicks and speed has declined. This evening at half time my husband even made a comment that my kicks seemed off. I know I am losing muscle as well as fat ad weights are the answer there, but just want to know is all this normal.

My question is have other athletes experienced this ( the decline in your ability of your sport)? If you have what did you do to get back to your old self.

I know I do not get in enough Protein, and since I am playing three times a week I do not hit the gym like I was in the beginning of this journey.

I am 4 months post op, and down about 66 pounds.

I played football for 12 years. I am 4 months post op as well and have started to realize how much weaker I am. I asked my doc what I could do and he said to keep up the cardio and Protein intake. Told me no lifting to get stronger yet. Need to give your body all the time it needs to lose as much as possible. Could take up to 18 months to 24 months to do so. The fact of the matter is that if we start lifting too soon we will put on weight and get discouraged. He did tell me that using light weights to tone would be better, but no building. Just keep up the good work. In time you will get back to form on the pitch.

It is VERY important to get your daily Protein in expecially since you are 4 months post op. I am 6 months post op and I get a minimum of 64 grams of protein daily no matter what. My total for the day is probably between 80-90 grams. It is soooooo important ... your body cannot move unless it has fuel.. kind of just like a car..if you don't feed a car gas it does not go...same with our bodies !!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
