Question- After Post Op but Before 1st Fill

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am about 2 weeks Post Op and eating as normal, but some of the weight that I lost preop and immediately post op has started to come back slightly (not much 1 lb or 2). Since I have not had my first fill which is scheduled in another 2 weeks, is it normal to be worried about seeing no progress just yet? I am wondering, was this worth it, I don't see any weight loss yet. Will the true weight loss begin after I get my first fill?

HELP! :omg:

The first few weeks after surgery is all about healing up your stomach. I was told not to worry about weight loss until after my first fill. Hang in there! I'm also 2 weeks out and on mushy foods. I decided to keep track of calories and such just to keep a handle on things. I don't want to gain either!

any weight loss during the pre fill stage and the healing stage is a bonus. Not to worry if you gain a few of the first few pounds you lost back. It is normal..of course you will lose weight when you are on liquids and normal to gain a few lbs back once you start eating again before your fill. Dont worry about weight loss right now, focus on healing. You got a long journey ahead of you. Once you start getting yourfills things will be different, hang in there :)

Yes! You are still in the healing stage prior to your first fill. Also, you don't have any restriction so technically the band isn't working. I gained 6 lbs when I went to solids but it came off after my fill. You will be fine. Hang in there.

How can you not have any restriction? I mean the pouch is there isn't it? I realize the band isn't tight but it is still there. After surgery and before a fill aren't you on broths for a while then progress to creamy stuff then mushie foods? Pardon my ignorance, just trying to understand all this before my surgery. One other thing, what is absolutely forbidden forever after being banded? Cokes, beer, and soft bread is all I know of.

Sugarbear, some people do feel restriction after the band is placed around the stomach just because it's there, but most people don't. The band doesn't really create a pouch (in the same sense as the bypass), but it creates a narrower opening from the top of the stomach into the lower stomach. Picture a funnel. food goes in the top, but the size of the opening determines how quickly food goes down. That's why liquids flow right through.

So for some people, just having the band creates a smaller "funnel" opening. For others, they need 2, 3, or even 4 fills to get it small enough. Most of the time, any reduction in hunger prior to getting fills is because your stomach is swollen from the surgery...NOT because the band is doing anything yet.

As for foods you can never eat...carbonated beverages are the only thing Inamed says is a no-no. Most bandsters can eat anything if done carefully, but being able to eat it and *should* eat it are two different things.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
