Pen Pal Goodie Boxes?

Recommended Posts

i agree it is about getting to know people' date=' but for some they don't get the concept....like i said i have met so far 2 beautiful women who are now in my life and they are stuck with me lol...and we talk often even as we get new pen pals, we still reach out to one another to check on each other and that's what its all about....the connection

like i said this was not to bash anyone at all and I don't want anyone to feel I am saying this to them....I am just describing what a pen pal means to me, nothing more nothing less...this is a great thing tasha has started and i am so grateful to her...if it wasn't for tasha I wouldn't have gain the 2 friends/sisters I have because of this program....[/quote']

You get out what you put into this. I also feel you need to get to knw some1. And it's not fair to the other person if you don't. Just like the people that get a box but don't send one. No1 is forcing anyone to do this we all do this cause we enjoy doing it.

Exactly!!!

Definitely not fair when the other person doesn't send a box, doesn't speak and ask questions..

I enjoy meeting new people a bonding and making connections, if I didn't I would reply no...it's just frustrating when ppl sign up for it and not apply to the program.

Truer words could never have been spoken!!!! I agree with my Sis!!! I think that some people forget the concept behind the program. I don't think that life_after_gastric_bypass is saying that everyone that participates fails to get to know their pen pal. I must say that I've encountered pen pals that don't want to talk, they don't care about your journey and they aren't interested in sharing their journey. All they want is your address and to provide you with theirs. People send items that are open and used. They ignore your emails. I am not saying that everyone does it but there are too many people complaining of the same things for it to not be a real issue. I know that the argument will be made that people work and have lives. Okay so let me shoot this argument down.

I run my own business. I have more than 6 and less than 10 children. I volunteer. I teach several classes. All of my children are in extra curricular activities. I'm a room parent for 2 of the kids. I volunteer in all of their classrooms. I have a husband that works full time and we still have to make time for each other. I still make time for my pen pals. It doesn't take much to send an email to get to know someone.

The boxes are a wonderful thing but I've found that the friendship is the greatest blessing! If all you are looking for a box of goodies, tell Tasha that when you say yes. At least then she can pair you with someone just like yourself. I am tired of getting people that just want something. I'm tired of getting opened and used stuff. We didn't talk. How do I know it's safe to use it. As unfortunate as it may be, we still live in a world where people will do anything.

If you take this personal, then that's truthfully on you! I'm not apologizing for the truth.

Again, I have a sister for life because of this program and I will always be thankful to God and Tasha but I'm tired of how so many are using this program.

I understand totally. I have been doing this for only 5months and I always tell my pen pal to keep in touch and I am only in touch with one of my five so far. It is my passion to help people I put my heart into every box so far. I even make healthy Snacks I make. And for some reason I got a phone call from my pen pal and I did not get one in return o well. I would love to keep in touch with them all but I can't make people talk. I am open to talk to anyone about my journey if they want to hear what I have to say. Anyone can in box me and I will send my info....

You ladies are great! You are are prime examples of what I wanted to do when starting this program. We are all busy but it is just nice to know that we aren't alone in this journey!

I want everyone to keep in touch and have fun! Me personally, I am horrible about calling ppl (even my family) but ill always text or email! I love hearing about everyone's struggles and everything they have overcome! Each of our journeys are different and the more we learn about each other the better the person I believe it makes you.

My thoughts on people participating have always been very clear, if you have taken the time to answer my email and say yes you will participate, than why are you not following through? Really, how would you feel if you thoughtfully took the time to put a box together, mailed it off and come to find out your not getting on in return?? I set this program up and I've been stood up 3 or 4 times I believe. So I know the frustration for ppl when they do not receive. It's not even the point of not getting a box, there is no need to lie, if something comes up, let your pen pal know. You could even refuse delivery so they get the box back. Part of the program is honesty and it breaks my heart that something that is set up to help, people still take advantage.

Well my rant is over!

I can't fail to mention all the great friendships and awesome relationships I've built because of this program, I feel like I know a lot of you even though I haven't even met you!!

It's a wonderful program and there are few that don't follow through so I don't want people to be discouraged!!

Keep up the friendships!

Hello, my name is Doreen I'm having my surgery on November 4th. I am being revised from the band to bypass. I love this idea of a pen pal. Could you please explain to me how your pen pal program works and how I find one. Here is my e-mail doreenviv56@gmail.com I will give more detail about myself once I hear from someone. Thank you.

Tasha again I love how you put this thing together. You got people together from all over and put them together and for that I appreciate you. Its beautiful because if someone does not have the support they need they have a pen pal to talk too and get to know. Personally I have met 2 incredible women that I now can say are my sisters for life....and because of you we are constantly in touch and checking on one another and that's what makes this program beautiful.

I am not one to be a debbie downer but I feel like some people do not understand what a pen pal is and it is very frustrating. Years back a pen pal was someone you would go back and forth with with written letters and getting to know one another and building relationships. I feel like some people and again this is just me and believe me I'm not complaining just want a "pen pal goodie box".

I have participated before in this a few times and if you ask my pen pals I have done my part. what I do not agree with however is when a person right away sends me an e-mail asking for my address to send a box. How can someone truly send you anything with out getting to know you' date=' 2nd although it feels like we are in a safe place this is still the internet so I am not comfortable that quick to say ok here's my address send what u think I may like...because I may send something and the person may not be on the stage I'm in....

I am a talker and I love to talk and get to know the person I am interacting with including their struggles, their likes and dislikes what we have in common and so on... how else will it work having a pen pal and knowing nothing about the other person? its impossible to know someone just by 1 email. I'm in the heart of NYC so I have access to almost anything and I have no issues finding things I need so for me its not about a box although I do appreciate it...its about the connection and friendships build.

I am a great pen pal to have but it would be nice for some people not all to understand what a pen pal truly is...no one could understand who you are, what you like, how you feel, if they don't truly get to know you and again this is just my opinion. again as I stated Tasha I love what you have put together, it just gets frustrating to me when the other person doesn't apply to the pen pal part of it....they lose out on what the essence of this program is all about and that's the connection between 2 people.

Personally i am in the heart of NYC I have access to many places so its not really about a box for me, but the friendships I welcome with open arms and that is priceless....thanks again..and sorry about this small vent its just frustrating.[/quote']

We need to be pen pals!! I talk a lot too! Haha! I totally agree though. I joined a weight loss support group before this and my assigned pen pal talked to me for a week and that was it - and she stopped dieting so not very helpful! But I totally need support for this. My family is AMAZING and 100% supoortive but they arent overweight and dont understand. But im just happy they are supportive!!

:) it is great when you get someone and they grasp the whole idea of pen-pals...I LOVE talking, being supportive, sharing ideas, and really getting involved with my pen pal...of course we have ppl in our lives, but who better to understand your journey like someone who is going thru it with you :) plus it's great to get an email from someone checking on you, talking and interacting with u....that's where a friendship blossoms....when peoples don't talk and interact it's like pulling teeth and I am no dentist lol...I'm going to in box u here :)

Got my box today! Loved everything that came, even got a toy for my cat! Got a couple packets of Nashua Nutrition vanilla Cappuccino, just tried one. This was the first time I have ever had a cappuccino, I don't like coffee, but this was really good!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
