Food Not Getting Stuck So Much 6.5 Weeks Post Op.

Recommended Posts

Hi all :)

I am just wondering about something and I hope you who are more experienced than me can let me know what you think.

ok, last week, if I ate too fast, like 2 spoonfuls, I would get that awful stuck feeling in my chest and would have to throw up... but the past few days, things are not getting stuck as much!

I know how stupid this is going to sound, but I am worried now that things are going a little too well for me (despite being admitted to hospital last week but thats another story)

I keep thinking that there is something wrong with my pouch, how, at this early stage, can it accept almost anything (havent eaten junky fatty foods) I was having light dumping after half of my meals but that seems to have stopped.

Is it normal that the blocked up feeling eases after a while?

I ate some chicken today.. and it got stuck, I was absolutely delighted!!!! Isnt that a bit mad?

Like I said, I am worried that I feel so well. almost normal except for the amount I am eating.

I sometimes feel I could eat more, but is the full feeling different to what it was before? or am I just not feeling it???

(sorry if its longwinded)

LOL, No you don't crazy... we all have to do what works us, not everyone is the same :) Just be careful because if you go too fast with introducting food you will get sick I guarantee it !!! My problem the first 3-4 months was I had to learn how to chew my food, I would not chew properly and the second I swollowed I knew it was not right and I would be sick for hours. I would get the "foamies" where I would spit up real foamy syliva and it was painful too. That was my body's way of saying "hey you jerk CHEW your darn food !!! :) Then it would not happen for a while and I would forget to chew my food like a million time and bam it would happen again. Aside from that I felt awesome about 2 wks post op but I followed my dr.'s schedule of liqids, soft, semi-soft and then regular food. It sounds like you are doing really well - keep up the good work !

No what's happening is normal your pouch is healing just fine. Some people say that they can drink normal and not have to sip, others say they can eat what ever they want with no dumping.

Me Water gets stuck if I take to big a sip, there are foods I can't eat yet like Pork just won't stay down. At times I feel like the surgery never happened and worry that I will gain back my 52 lbs I have lost. I know it's all in my head Becuse when I eat something that sticks Its like a wake up call.

At 10 weeks out I'm just starting to get the feeling of fullness and at times I think my new pouch is trying to tell me I'm hungry. This to takes time and it could take up to 18 months before your big pouch gets the message it's not in charge anymore and stays quite.i heat talking to people and have my old pouch start grumbling loudly to

This is long winded just to say do as your doctor says and you will be fine

Good luck and keep lossing

You may want to make a note as to what gets stuck. I can't eat pork of any kind and I love pork hoping it will go away soon. Another thing I can't eat and gets stuck is processed turkey or chicken like sandwich meat just won't go down.

It's a shame that foods we love don't loves us any more.and I'm ok with that now

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
