I packed comfy loose cloths to come home in, underwear and robe or pj pants for walking. Phone charger and chapstick. I used face wash wipes to not have to bend over to wash my face, tooth brush and toothpaste I took but used the hospitals. I took my kindle but never used it I didn't even use my phone only to talk to my daughter. I walked and slept.

i am still pre op, but when I had my band seven years ago I remember people said CHAPSTICK and your lips do get dry in the hospital.

If you have very far drive a small pillow to hold on your belly helps.

If you have a favorite bed pillow take that and put a different color case on it so it doesn't get mixed with other linen

charger to your phone

I am sure others who have been through this more recently have more suggestions.

My must haves were Chapstick, my own deodorant, comfy clothes for ride home, couple magazines, phone and charger and a book. Honestly I didn't read the book, the hospital supplies most toiletries. Take at least 4-5 pairs of underwater. My incisions leaked a few times onto mine. Not a good feeling. I spent my time sleeping, walking and browsing the web! Good luck!!

Keep what you bring down to a least amount possible. But your own pillow, if that is important to you, I had to bring mine since I cant sleep without mine. If you are attached to a blanket or whatever makes you feel more relaxed is important. I am not attached to a specific blanket but my friend is. Bring something to entertain you, but you will mostly either be sleeping or walking (remember walk ASAP and as often as possible) after your surgery. It does depend how long you will be there, I was only there over one night, so did not need much. I played on my phone or watched their television (food channel of all things) but kept drifting in and out of sleep. Maybe a book or something like that, but keep it light and fluffy since you will not be up to anything heavy.

Also bring personal items for teeth and hair etc. I brough makeup for going home. I did not bring my own sleeping clothes and just wore the hospital gowns, they did the job and it was a pain to get into my own clothes due to the catheter that they did not take out until a few hours before I went home. IF you have a drain it also makes it difficult (I did not have the drain). I was also told to bring chapstick but I never needed it, but I was able to drink and stay hydrated, but it is not a bad idea because you never know. Phone and phone charger a must for me.

Other than that I would not bring much. Maybe a journal to journal you journey?

Best of luck on your surgery

Thanks for all the advice! They're estimating I'll be there three days. Could I take my laptop?

I was in the hopsital 3 days, I wore the clothes home that I went to the hospital in which were very loose sweat pants and top. I wore the hospital gowns they provided, the hopsital provided tooth brush, tooth paste etc. The only thing I brought was my cell phone and charger. You really don't feel like doing much except for walk and I just watched TV. The second I hit the morphine button i would be out for a while. The pain meds will make you sleep :) Oh... and chapstick is a must !!! Good luck

Since they are saying three days, I would take my laptop if I were you. You might feel like using it the second evening or so. You might not even turn it on, but if you are like me just as soon as you don't bring it you will want it.

pads or tampons. It's common for your cycle to start after surgery

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
