cjoyce 187 Posted September 28, 2012 I'm 14 weeks out and over the last 3-4 weeks my losing has really slowed down....is this normal? Still doing all that I've been doing even increasing Protein. I know I shouldn't be complaining....still losing about 3.3/week but I was averaging 5.5/week. How long should the "rapid loss" last?
Ellie_Grace 271 Posted October 1, 2012 I am also about the same time from surgery as you. Mine was 6/7/12 so maybe a bit further out. Anyway my weightloss slowed dramatically by the end of the second month. I now average about 2.5 pounds a week, that includes weeks I gain or weeks I don't lose any, but the overall average is 2.5. My understanding is that the less weight you have to lose the slower it will come off, so it is probably safe to say the lower you go the slower it come off. But remember at the lower weights the impact of a pound lost is greater than when you are 300 for example. I mean when I was 275 I could gain 15 pounds and not change sizes and lose that in a week or two and gain it back in a week or so with less difficulty. Now when I lose 10-15 pounds I tend to drop a size. It is frustrating to see the scale slow down but I figure as long as the number trend is downward I will be able to handle it. I think you are totally normal.

PaulB 346 Posted October 1, 2012 At time of surgery I only needed to lose 100-120 lb and I'm one who loses real slow about 2-3 lbs a week. Those weeks that only show 1-2 lbs suck. But like they say do as the doctor and your nutritionist say and the weight will come off. And throw in some exercise sorry lots. 10 weeks later it shows and my wife and myself like what I see in the mirror. I just wish it would come off as fast as it goes on. Your doing fine keep it up Surgery Anniversary 7/30/
BBdoodle 483 Posted October 1, 2012 Oh yeah... it slows... totally normal. I will be 6 months post op (4/9) on 10/9 and I am at a stand still for a month already. I did lose a pound last week - woohoo. I have increased to jogging instead of walking and hopefully the intensity will get things going again. I really thought I would be down more that 41 lbs. after 6 months.... so depressing. I have a total of 80 to loose so hope for the next six months I will loose the other 40 and I will be happy I just thought that it would be more !!!! Mine started to taper off like yours too. 1 TinyMamiOf3kids reacted to this

You have nothing to be ashamed about 41 pounds in 6 months congrats you are doing great. Not everyone loses at the same rate. How's your calories intake is it to low. I started working out more in hopes of lossing faster not working when I keep my calories up around 800 + I lose more weight below 600 I won't lose any weight. Like I said your doing great it will come off Surgery Anniversary 7/30/

PaulB 346 Posted October 3, 2012 We all would like to lose at the rate we did befor and for like 2-3 weeks after surgery but it's just not health to maintain that kind of weight lose. You may be burning fat but you are also burning muscle at the same time and that's not healthy. Surgery Anniversary 7/30/
