Houston - University General Hospital & Dr. Rbt. Marvin

Recommended Posts

This is a new Hospital here in Houston and it supposed to be State of the art. Dr. Marvin is doing surgery their for WLS and from what I understand is a regular surgeon as well.

Is anyone familiar with him or the hospital?

UGH is a new hospital on Fannin in the Medical Center. I have not been there, but I've heard good things and I know Dr. Spivak practices there as well.

University General Hospital is amazing! My husband and I had our surgeries 2/2/07 and it was like staying at a 5 star hotel! The nursing staff was so great and its a beautiful facility. Each room is private and has its own plasma tv and beautiful artwork, VOIP phone, couch/bed, thermastat, private tile beautiful bathroom, etc. Boyond the facility though I have to say the staff was amazing and so many of them had gastric surgery of some kind as well and were very encouraging. Don't know about your Dr. though, we went through Dr. Spiegel and he was great.

Haven't heard of your doctor, but I know Spiegel and Dr. Garth Davis operate there. I didn't realize that Spivak had also joined them. I wish that it had been open when I had my surgery, but the surgicenter is good as well. Where will you have your fills? Will it be there or at the surgicenter where most of us go in Houston who have Spivak and Spiegel?

UGH is a great facility, I wasn't a patient there but from people i speak to they love it. And actually Dr Spiegel is doing his fills in his office again. Unless you had surgery @ Physician's Surgicenter, otherwise you would have them there if your surgery was at Surgicenter. If at any other hospital then you would come into his office for your fills.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
