6Wks Out, Gained 1.4Lbs

His wk I started eating between 1000-1200 calories...which is normal diet for loosing weight and somehow I gained! Granted I've been eating some things with sodium in it which could have caused the weight gain...very strange.

Hating this who process at the moment.

Water weight flies all over the place but it's almost always temporary. We all know how difficult it can be but give some thought to staying away from the scales for a week or even two if you can stand it. I truly believe that the scales often sabotage our efforts when in reality we're doing exactly what we should be doing! The scales do not tell the whole story and measuring your success against that number too often is a sure formula for frustration. Stay focused on following the protocol, stay active, and stay away from the scales!!

You would need to consume 3,500 calories MORE than what you burned just by existing. It's almost impossible for you to do that. It's Water weight.

Im also 6 weeks out today. So, Friday is my weigh in and I have gone up 1lb since last week. I am seriously freaking out at this stage. I have lost around 20lbs. I cant understand why it is going so slowly since I am eating so little. Why wont the scale move???

I was admitted to hospital 2 days ago to get some fluids into me as I am dizzy and exhausted, didnt seem to help, they let me home yesterday on the condition that I drink, drink drink.

Spoke with the surgeon and he said that they dont look at the amount of weight loss but more the % body fat, so he was ok with my weight loss so far.

I paid ALOT of money for this op myself and now Im thinking its all just a waste of money :(

ok guys you really need to get in a different frame of mind. Its hard, we have all been there. You will gain some weeks. Your body is in its wtf mode. You have shocked the hell out of it and it needs time to adjust. Im 7 months out and I have had so many stalls I cant even count them.. yet still thru it all I have lost 125 lbs. Not too shabby. Look at the bigger picture. IT will come off on fats on time not yours. Hard for most of us after all we have been thru. Good luck and hang in there!

Dave- wish I could be like you and stay away from the scales... but it's like a sirens song ... keeps luring me back day after day!!! ha!!

I would also like to point out that from what I read on this forum and others, it is pretty common to have a stall around the 5-7 week po mark. I am guessing that is about the time when our body starts realizing we are not eating enough. I started my stall at about the 6 week mark and stayed there for about 3 weeks. I just broke out of it now and lost 7 pounds this week. Just be patient and let your body work its magic.

Stay focused on following the protocol as closely to the letter as you can, stay active, and stay away from the scales for at least a week and two if you can stand it. Make sure that you are getting ALL of your Protein in - every day. It will help a lot with your exhaustion. Your body is going through some serious healing and a lot of changes. Protein is crucial to helping your body regenerate tissue and on a low carb diet, protein becomes your primary source of energy. As you have learned the hard way, dehydration can land you back in the hospital in a heartbeat. Most folks struggle with getting in 64oz of Water (all fluids help) a day but it's important to come as close as you possibly can. For most that means a sip at a time pretty much all day long.

Minor weight gains are irrelevant and almost certainly Water. The most effective way to avoid sabotaging yourself with the scales - stay off of them! Trust the process. Remind yourself every day (even several times a day!) that there is not the slightest doubt that you will lose weight as long as you are following the protocol. The science is rock solid and supported by hundreds of thousands of success stories over more than 30 years. Take all that "freaking out" and "worrying" energy that you're wasting and use it to stay focused. Six months from now and for the rest of your life you'll be thinking it was the best money you ever spent! Or ever will spend!!

Last but certainly not least, remember that patience is not only a virtue, it's an absolute necessity. There is not a single one of us that doesn't understand how you feel. But you simply cannot rush the process. Allow your body to find its own way in its own time. It won't let you down and you're gonna love the new you!!

You guys saved me today! Wow my gilt was setting in.

As for obsessing about the scale, that's definitly not my issue, I use the scale to help me determine what my body is doing. When I gain a pound and a half that means something is going on, for example Water retention or whichever. I think the scale, like the surgery, is a tool in itself. When I'm curious about weight gain it's because I'm interested to know what's going on in my body, not because I'm demanding weight loss. I've been so focused on surviving after surgery that once I started eating normally'esk I got really freaked out. Good to know my system and body is stronger then that. Thanks to ech of you for saving my mental health. xoxo

My MD and nutritionist have told me to stay beteen 600-700 calories. I am 4 months out and lose about 2 ibs a week. Be very careful not only to watch salt/ carbs sticking to Protein first. My nutritionists has said repeatedly that many women find maintainence at 1200 calories and stop losing at that calorie load. Seems unfair to me as I lost weight before at 1200 calories and now seem to be slowly losing at 600-700 calories, but I am losing however slowly. Men can always eat more calories, bummer to that!! I'm sure you will get back to losing with some adjustments, but I know how discouraging thiscan be we are all here to encourage you. You are not alone!!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
