Well just a few days ago I found this site and started snooping around and found out a great deal of good information.

My story is A week ago I went to my informational meeting and now I'm waiting for my first meeting I come from far northern Minnesota and looking to have this done in Duluth My wife had it done there over a year ago and everything went great she was so excited to have it done and is looking awesome. Me on the other hand have lots of fears and worries about getting this done. I feel like its something I have to do other then want to do that may seem strange but I have type 2 diabetes and my blood pressure is creeping up. I have tried for over 2 years to loose weight but always lost the battle. I quit smoking 3 years ago and I thought that was a battle but this battle to lose weight is being a tough one. I'm not looking to have this done just to lose the weight but to lose my diabetes and other health problems I'm only 33 and I see guys in there 50 and 60 getting hip replacements and knee replacements and heart attacks and strokes and Id like to skip those things in my life time. Hope i'm not sounding selfish but I think this is the right thing to do and is the right time to get RNY glad to find the site and I'll probly just be the guy in the back of the room reading the post best of luck to you all I've watched my wife go through this and its a hard but a amazing trip

welcome and I know your wife is going to be a great help to you. I am sure you have learned a lot going through her surgery with her. Now it is your turn. Like you I want the medical benefits more than anything else. My type 2 diabetes is so uncontrolled. I take massive amounts of insulin daily and it is still hard to control. Hoping this surgery will help.

Don't stay to far in the back of the room. You never know who just might need to hear something you have to ssy.

AND too boot you have everyone here on your side and ready to watch you walk that journey and support you. Go Walleye Go!

NO I haven't had the RNY yet. I have a lapband (seven years) but it never helped the diabetes regardless of weight loss or eating less. So I am kinda putting all my eggs in the RNY basket that my diabetes can be greatly improved if not gone. I know it won't be GONE, but if I didn't have to take massive does of insulin a day (which causes my body to hurt so bad) I would be happy. I run in the high 200's even on 300 units a day. Then out of no where I will crash to 50, not a good way to live at all. As a lot of us know,

Thanks again for the welcome yes I'm going to be lucky to have a wife that has already gone through this by the time I have my RNy she will be a expert on making good meals for us she already make good Protein balls and she is already telling me the good and bad and what I need to learn and should start doing now Like eating slower and chewing food to mush and she said its tough to not drink when eating something i'm going to have to learn hope it makes my journey better best of luck to you all

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
