Craving Junk Food..any Advice Would Help Me.

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 7/31/12 and I have lost about 40 lbs. Today has been rough for me. I feel like I am starting to crave junk food again and at lunch I ate chips and salsa at Applebee's I also had some chicken breast. Why am I starting to crave junk again? I need help because I am wanting to start snacking and grazing and I know that is not going to get me anywhere..ugh. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

It is going to be hard, but u have to remember what got us in this mess to begin with. Of course we are not going to eat perfect everyday of the year, so it is ok to indulge responsibly every once and a while. But if you must graze, find something healthy to graze on. I cut up cucumber slices and eat one or two if I feel the need to snack. Or get some string cheese. Before u eat something u r not supposed to ask yourself Am I really hungry or is thus just head hunger? Then try a healthy snack. Just remember this is a lifestyle change. I know you can do this!

Luvlife thanks for the advise. I am going to try the cucumber and string cheese. It is getting harder for me now then it was. I do not want to fail at this it is too important.

How about something like Secial K crackers they are new about 110 cals per 27 chips they are really good and they help when you need something that crunches. Or try a Protein bar Quest bars are really good or Atkins makes one that's not to bad.

Remember what you have gone though and what got you here.

Hang in there

Anytime. I will try and think of some other Snacks to munch on. For some reason right now my mind is blank. My surgery was on 7/24/12 so we are at about the same place.

Thanks to you both! I go to the store and I really just wander around not really knowing what I should have on hand when the cravings start but you both have given me some great ideals of what I need to get. I feel better having some sort of plan when the craving starts again!

Luvlife we are close in surgery dates I am glad you are doing good! Keep it up!

i was told the second you start eating carbs like chips it can send you into a binge, so maybe "kale chips" right now i am starving and i am on liquids.. I want real food so bad i ate a pc of cooked brocc and chewed it and spit it out. i just had to taste something, besides Protein drinks....good luck

Try spinach chips instead of kale. A friend turned me on to these! I keep a bag of sugar free werthers in my desk for cravings at work. At home Special K chips with a little 'Protein dip' (plain Greek yogurt instead of sour cream. I like to add a pack of onion Soup mix). I also like shelled pumpkin seeds or salted boiled edamame. I made 'naked wings' which is just non breaded chicken with buffalo sauce and dipped in bleu cheese. Lol of course only 2 of these is plenty but its nice to have normal foods.

I try to keep these Snacks to once or twice a week because as soon as I started experimenting with Snacks I hit a stall.

Atkins sells Protein bars/snacks that taste like real candy bars.

Another good thing to do with these crackers is to make a little tuna or cannedchicken as a Protein snack and they will add a nice salty crunch that satisfies the craving longer.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
