Hi, I'm Shirley and I'm new here. I have just had my pre-surgery consultation with my surgeon and he has scheduled my surgery for October 15, 2012. My insurance company has required me to jump throught all sorts of hoops since February and I think everything is now done and I can get approved. Keep your fingers crossed for me if you would.

I've just posted my profile here and I'm looking for a support buddy. I want to find someone who is at about the same spot or slightly ahead of me so that we can talk about concerns we have with the surgery. I'm having the RNY and know I will have all kinds of questions.

I live in Hot Springs, Arkansas and it would be great if some of you live near here and would like to have a walking or exercise group that we could do together. If any of you are interested, or would like someone to pair up with as we go through this, just email me. I think that I have set up the profile so that you can see my email address. If not, let me know and I'll figure out how to set it.

Wish each of you the best in your weight loss.

Hi Shirley. Welcome! I am slightly ahead of you in the process... by about 2 months... so don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. I am by no means an expert, but am happy to share what I know from my experiences. Best to you!

Thanks to all of you for your well wishes. I'm down to the final 2 weeks before surgery and of course haven't heard from the insurance company. I'm really excited about the surgery but a bid scared about the operation.

Hi, and welcome to the group. My date for RNY is Oct. 15, also...there are several of us with that date.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
