At my two week appt my Dr said pop was aloud. As long as its diet. He said carbonation won't stretch my stomach. I thought this was pretty cool incase I occasionally drink diet pop.

That's cool, my doc said the reason they don't allow soda not even the diet, because it raises the insulin levels and that in turn slows down the weight loss process..

My surgeon says we can have diet soda also, but he suggests not having it near mealtime because the carbonation fills our pouch with air instead of the Protein and nutrients we need. I have had two diet sodas since my surgery and it seemed to be fine. But I could tell there was a feeling of fullness that it created.

That makes me feel much better. I have started back drinking it. Only about half of one a day but its still becoming a habit again.

I tried one that was mostly flat and just the little bit of carbonation made me very uncomfortable so it's a no go for me. Today I had a coke zero at my sons football game and let it go completely flat and was fine.

I've tried diet soda, but only a few sips. It did give me a full feeling, but no pain. I mostly do Water and light lemonade

Yeah everyone is different. Because when I drank diet I didn't feel an discomfort. My stomach was just making noises. But I want to try and keep it to one a day, if that. I don't want to get lost in bad habits again.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
