:biggrin1: Hello everyone, My name is Laura. I had my surgery May 06. I started my weight at 207lbs. The surgery was more for health problems than weight. I went in initially for gastric bypass, I had a birth defect and the doctor closed me up and I had to weight two more weeks so insurance would authorize lap band. I have lost only 30 lbs so far. I guess the worst part about the band is mornings can't seem to get much down, and waiting till I am famished so then I eat to fast and end up not keeping it down.

Has anyone found anything that will jump start my weight loss again?

I know I need a fill now as I can eat steak.. :)

I am getting pretty disappointed with the band but I also know I am not following band protocol.

Any suggestions are welcome.

PS My doctor was Dr Johnelle in Colorado

I struggled withweight loss even with the band due to medcal problems that made it tough to follow the band rules- late last year I decided that enough was enough, I spoke to nutritionist and my doctor ( for me a speech pathologist as well to help assess swallowng problems) and now since november I hae gone from 385 to 330 pounds and thats wth no Fluid in the band.

If you know you are not following the rules, is because you physically can't, emotionally can't or some other reason- if you can't follwo the rules go back and speak to your nutrionist and doctor- but journal what you are eating and when, how much etc first and then take this with you to you appontment

its not an easy process but you need to work the band, it is possible but you may need so professional help with advise on how you can get your band to work for you- do not give up but don't think that it is all simple because you have the band. wether it is gastrc bypass or band, wls is only a tool and you need to know how to use it to best effect- goodluck

How much fill do you have? I would be worried that you already have too much fill if you aren't able to eat in the morning. You could also try loosening your band with coffee or hot tea in the morning before you eat. That's what some of the people on the board do.

Hi Laura, I'm a slow loser too. I would go back for a fill and go on liquids for a day or two. That should jumpstart your weight loss. Don't feel too bad my dear. I was banded in June and I've only lost 40 lbs. Its been a really slow process for me. Recently I put on 5 lbs. I can't figure out why. I need to start exercising big time. I'm pretty down on myself right now.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I am currently at 1.7 on my fill. Just depends on the day, some days I feel it is tight enough and somedays no restriction at all???? can't explain it. I don't believe I am to tight because I should not be able to get steak down with no problem and right now I am. I weighed myself today and dropped 3 lbs last two weeks but I am back on no sugar and no carbs at all. The sugar part kills me.

Again thanks for all your help everone.

Laura

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
