There are other ways of getting your Protein. It's helps to drink it but you can get it though meat fish fruits. Have you tryied Quest bars 20 + g protein no sugars low in carbs is another way you can get protein . Talk to your nutritionist they should be able to help you

It is very important to get your Protein in, plus you don't want to start losing your hair. As PaulB said above talk to your nutritionist they will be able to suggest other sorces of protein. Maybe try a different flavor of the powder, I know the shakes are not the best but I just drink mine as quick as I can and get it over and done with. I eat cottage cheese and yogurt which are both high in protein as well. My dr. says minimum 64 grams of protein a day... I do my best to get 80 grams a day.

Do it contain a lot of sugar? I'm told nothing less that 5 grams.

Sorry that is not more that 5 grams of sugar if it's not a natural sugar from fruit that it can make you dump.

If you have a shake or powder that you like and that is low in sugar, I'd stick with it but maybe try drinking only two or three ounces at a time. Wait an hour and if it stays down, then drink another two or three ounces. Or use the same idea with Protein Bars if that works better for you. That may eliminate the dumping. There are certainly high Protein food options but at four weeks out, you may find it difficult to eat enough to meet your daily protein requirement. Another option is to put a scoop of unflavored Protein Powder in a small bowl and then add a pinch to whatever you eat during the day. You can add it to almost anything and with just a pinch you probably won't notice the taste. By the end of the day, you've added 20+ grams of protein to your diet. Protein is important for a lot of very good reasons. Stay determined and keep experimenting until you find what works best for you. You'll be glad you did!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
