Hello Y'all, surgery date 9/13/2013, with complications of collapsed lung so I stay additional days. I am home now, but wondering at what point did everyone pain on the left side go away? I can not drink anything cold at all. or it lays my straight out. mind you I am not taking any pain meds and refused them in the hospital as much as possible. Warm tea seem to agree well, Protein Drinks, 2 sips and I''m up walking circles in my house in stabbing pain. I understand it hasn't even been a week yet, but I was just wondering

HOW LONG DID YOUR PAIN LAST?

thanks a bunch..

surgery date 8/24/12 and i am still in pain(left side). it really helps to wear a brace. dr. told me might last 7-8 weeks. :( gas does seem to make it worse because it pushes out on the muscle in my stomach. gas-x is a friend of mine. lol hope ya feel better soon! :D

My largest incision was on the right side, Im 2 weeks post op today, no pain meds since hospital. I get pains from time to time, I just walk it off. But its mainly if I use that muscle too much. ie...sneeze cough or jerk to get up.

I had surgery 7/24/12 and still get pains from time to time. I would say the major pain lasted probably 4 weeks or so. Pain meds help!

Everything I have consumed has been at room temp. My Dr said this reduces spasms in the pouch. Apparently cold temps can cause problems. I have to say I haven't had any problems by following this rule. I am 8 days post op & on liquids only until 8/27????.. I drink 3 Proteins shakes per day plus whatever water/crystal light I need to consume to meet my Fluid intake. Everday I feel a little better????????.

Haha....I'm glad I'm not the only one having dreams about food. I thought it was just me. I have dreams then wake up panicked thinking I was eating. Crazy.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
