Discouragement Rant

Recommended Posts

Lately I have been feeling down. In 2 months I have only lost 45 lbs. I thought it would be more. I thought I would lose faster. I am trying to get the stupid Protein in but I can't hold anything down. Freakin chips & dip goes down great, I learned that with tortilla strips and guacamole. Greeaaat, right. Why can I get that down fine but not a Protein Drink? I've tried so many different brands. Then dealing with a hell of a kidney stone. I still have 100 lbs to lose, I just don't want to lose ky muscle tone in the process and if I can't get the protein that's what's gonna happen.

I have a lot more energy than I did a month ago. I still firmly stand by my decision to have the surgery. I love having the energy to climb rock hills and do cart wheels. I actually went down a slide and swung on a swingset. My kids were so excited, I was playing with them not just watching them.

Sorry for rambling.

Make some Beans, blend them like Soup add Water and you have Instant Protein, that you can drink.

Ooh, that sounds yummy, I am definitely going to try that. Maybe add a little red pepper. I actually can't wait.

You're losing more than five pounds a week and you're discouraged. If you were to maintain that rate for another five months you'd be at your goal weight! It's all about lifestyle changes and lifestyle changes start with realistic expectations. Ask yourself what you expected. 10 lbs a week? 15? More? Now ask yourself are those realistic expectations?

You're doing fabulous! Congratulations!! Just keep doing what you're doing and watch your transformation into the new you! Stay focused on following protocol, stay active, and stay away from the scales for a week and even two if you can stand it. You're gonna love the new you!!

Thank you. 17 of the 45 is my pre-op diet loss. Still, who loses 45 lbs in 2 months. Your post made me feel good. When I started this thread I was super discouraged, not as much about the loss but being sick. I vomit a lot, I literally cannot even keep Water down. Water plain has always made me nauseous, now it makes me vomit. It's like my gag reflex has gone on super drive. As for Protein supplements, I have yet to find one that does not make me dump.

I feel better now than I did a couple.days ago. I'm in a better mind frame. I had to remind myself weight is just a number. Being able to play with and chase my kids is amazing and 2 months ago I couldn't do that. My goal is to be able to climb a tree with my daughter. Thanks again.

Have you discussed the vomiting with your doctor? Might be nothing but it could be a stricture and you're right about at the time when strictures sometimes become evident. I was fortunate not to have the problem but it is most certainly treatable. Most of the folks I've read or talked to said they improved dramatically following treatment.

I'm sure you know that Water (or at least fluids of some kind) and Protein are important post-op factors. Dehydration can land you back in the hospital in a heartbeat and failure to get ALL of you daily Protein can delay healing and increase lean muscle and hair loss. Might not be a bad idea to discuss both of those with your doctor as well.

So glad to hear that you're at least feeling better. I really do think that you've done a great job so far. You've hit a little bump in the road but it will be behind you and nothing more than a distant memory before you know it!!

I honestly thought I was the only person on this forum that knows the difference between the words "lose" and "loose." Thank you for proving me wrong, it has been driving me up a wall

We had surgery on the same date. I am down a total of 47 (pre op included). I have not lost a single pound in the last 3 weeks. So for comparison sakes you are doing great! I agree with DL. I would definitely talk to the Dr about the nausea and vomiting. That doesn't sound right. Keep your chin up, we can do this! Besides, it is better to lose it slowly, that way we will not have as much loose skin:)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
