What is sliming?

Recommended Posts

I haven't had this happen but have heard it is when you are going to pb and a thick saliva that is slime consistency just starts coming out of your mouth. You can't swallow it back down and have to spit it out. I don't know if it is like this for everyone, but my friend said it has poured out of her mouth!!!! Kinda like the bodys way of trying to dislodge the food and bring it up. You are not supposed to keep swallowing.

Hope that helps!

Oh Mookie... do a search for sliming (on this board), you'll find 5 million explanations. I haven't had quite what Baby said... it doesn't POUR out, and it doesn't come up on its own. I have to kind of burp, and sometimes what comes up is a thick clear slime. I believe it is the stomachs way of unsticking something.

Our saliva contains digestive enzymes, and is made on a more-or-less continuous process, increasing when we eat.

My hypothesis is, that in early-postBand life, our body has not yet throttled back with production. Since we have (very often) some degree of dehydration and decreased capacity to swallow unconsciously, all that Fluid, suddenly comes to our attention more frequently.

Also, at times, I felt my own salivary glands responding to triggering mechanisms whether I was experiencing hunger or not, or eating or not.

I just love the way you word things!!! You make the everything sound so philosophical.:)

Ok, I am official now, I just had my first slime! I just got home from work where I had some applesauce about an hour ago...then I had about 1/2 can of tuna...then I was gonna have some cheeze, but...I started getting really bad pain. I felt like I couldn't breathe, enough so that I called my husband and I never ask for help! I couldn't talk etc...went down to my knees...tears...the whole lot...this went on for about 5 minutes and then I threw up a huge cream colored ball of slime. (I know it was slime cause it looked so weird I had to touch it!!! lol. I made it to the sink and it plugged it up! (Sorry if that is gross!) Then I had instant relief! I am so happy to have that behind me. I was starting to think something was wrong with me because I don't feel a lot of the things other bandsters feel! Yeah I am normal!

I find I slime if I eat to much or too fast and I am too full I find it is my stomach's response to having too much in it and my body produces the slimy saliva to try and get the food out of the top part of the stoma as fast as it can. I find that walking around tends to help me not vomit the slime up, while I am swallowing copious amount of that dog like drool I like to call saliva.

And normal whats that???

Sliming, like "PB", is one of those things that 10 people will probably define 7 or 8 different ways.

To me, sliming precedes a PB. It's the period of excessive salivation before you actually have the PB. The saliva is thicker than normal, and "ropey" (aka can create a rope from your lip to the sink without breaking). Yum!

I've heard several others refer to sliming as a PB where only saliva comes up.

But to me, if I've "yakked", it's a PB, I don't care if saliva, food, or my missing sock comes up.

So - you tell us what it means, and we'll add it to the list of possibilities. :D

The whole Sliming thing seems a little freaky. I am a little worried about it, I would hate to do it at the office or something. Yuck! Even worse on a date. :)

From what I have been reading though the question reallly isn't will I but more like When Will I? Maybe we should place bets on when us Newbies will have our first attack of the Slime or PB. :D

After reading this, I think I both slimed and PB'd. That means I am a full member of the bandster club! I am still not sure what triggered it but I will guess at eating too fast.

Thanks for the good info.

Yea, what is PB? The nurse at the office told me the excess saliva sometimes is caused by our glands reacting to very flavorful foods. Like when you smell something really good and you want to drool! I get it all the time, no food in it, just very thick saliva.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
