crazy pre-banding dreams!

Recommended Posts

did anyone else (or is anyone else) having crazy weird pre-op dreams?!

last night i dreamt i was in the hospital (which looked an awful lot like a 7-11/cheap motel combo) laying in a huge bathtub filled with bubbles while my nurse was busy making a bunch of big gulps. i drank part of one and she yelled at me that my surgery was going to be postponed if i continued to drink soda. so i sat in the bubble bath and nervously waited for the other nurse to come draw my blood. i panicked that i forgot my laptop and was scared that i couldn't find my friend to help me go through the surgery. the Water got cold and then i woke up.

i also had a dream that i was already banded and was on a roller coaster. we went over a HUGE hill (hill?) and then went down a dip super fast and i threw up my band! never mind that it's on the OUTSIDE on my tummy. i woke up freaked out a bit. LOL.

i have WEEKS to go and i'm already having crazy dreams every night. can't wait to see what my mind produces as the date gets closer!!! :heh:

I have crazy dreams all the time. So far, none about the surgery. But I do dream about food. I am hoping that as I lose weight I will dream about oreos and brownies and so forth less. I think I am stuck dreaming about pizza-- I take pizza orders for a job. Right now I can get a craving and it can be weeks that have passed and the craving will not go away until I eat whatever it is that I am craving. And the dreams usually make me crave something!

Ah, anxiety dreams. :)

Mine were around eating something, and then realizing I hadn't chewed it. Or since I generally try to follow a low-carb diet, eating something high in carbs (which really doesn't phase me in reality) without realizing it... like "Oh I didn't know those pretzels were hidden inside the piece of bacon" and freaking out because I've blown it.

Welcome to type A. :)

Funny you should ask....I'm scheduled for 2/22 surgery. The other day I had a dream that I was on the gurney to go into surgery but in the waiting room w/DH and he was eating a bowl of chili. I then proceeded to to eat half the bowl (note: I H A T E chili). It was 1:40 (I checked my watch) and the dr. said i had to wait 'til 5:30 since they were doing surgeries in order of who was the biggest! Needless to say, I then wondered why mine was not done early in the AM (lol). Weird, I know.......but you asked.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
