Decided in June that I'm going to do the surgery. Since then I have done SO much research I feel as though I'm a pro already lol. This board has been amazing and makes me so excited. I found out insurance is covering it 100% except a $35 copay and a surgeons fee of $350. Their requirements are cardiology clearance, lung test, psych evaluation and 6 months worth of weigh ins. I got clearance from all already and have my 2nd weigh in tomorrow. 4 more to go. Last one will be mid January. In the meantime I'm trying to lose as much as possible but I'm going to enjoy the hell out of Thankgiving & Christmas this year. I'm thinking surgery will be in February, and it can't come soon enough!

That is fantastic!! May I ask what kind of insurance do you have? My husband and I started our 3 month period of supervised dieting and such June 1st and we did our last weigh in for that a week ago. We also did our nutritional counseling and psych eval. Now we are just waiting for everyone to compile their notes together so they can submit it all to insurance for approval and then we can schedule our surgery date! I am anxiously awaiting! We are hoping that we can do surgery before the end of the year yet. Should hopefully be within the next 2 months. Good luck and I am glad that we can all go through this journey together! I just found this board a week ago and LOVE the community here!

I have BCBS Highmark. My husband works for the railroad and they make their own policies. Good luck to both of you!

Ok. We have BCBS Federal. They do cover it, but at 85/15. So it's going to cost a pretty penny still. But it will be worth it!!Thank you for sharing and good luck to you, too!

That's what I have Kelly through husband's work at the coal mines. They are really good except I hate the 6 (which really is 7) supervised weight loss requirements

Wow! That is fantastic! We have met our deductible for the year, but there is also an out of pocket maximum which we have no way met yet. But as long as we both get our surgeries in before the end of the year, then it will be a lot cheaper because we will hit that oop maximum. **Hopefully we will get them at the end of October. Just waiting to get everything submitted now and then get our approvals!**

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
