Pig Pickin

Recommended Posts

We're at a pig pickin with all sorts of wonderful foods and the one thing making me crazy is seeing my son drink a diet Dr pepper....had not even thought about a soft drink in forever until today. Of course I didn't touch it....but it looked sooo good.

Your son is too cute. What's pig pickin? I'm from the south' date=' but have not heard of this.

From the south and never been to a pig pickin....I thought these were just a staple for southerners!!! I'm in NC. Its where the whole pig is cooked in a pit like grill...and then its cut up, chopped, ribs, etc....all for the eating. Of course there is always plenty of other food too to go along with the pig....here's a pic.

The BBQ was wonderful with no sauce on it at all....that's how I ate it...very good....though I was drooling over that diet Dr pepper!!

Thats funny because I love calling it K-vegas, lol. I hadn't found anyone who lived near me. We should all meet up sometime.

I'd love to get together sometime....it would be so nice to have some REAL time with other people going through the same things as I am right now. Bekki - when was/is your surgery?

Oh I sure will!! I'm actually trying to keep myself busy as I called my insurance and they said it's in review as we speak and your doctor's office should get a fax by the end of the day!! I'm praying for surgery with Dr. Pirrello @ Southeast Bariatrics. His office is in Matthews.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
