Hi I go on 9-18 & get my surgery date but I CAN'T STOP EATING!! I've done so well the last three months and lost 35 lbs for the surgery but the closer I get to finally getting my date I overeat! UGH, I'm so frustrated with myself I've done so good and now I don't know what's going on in my head.

Don't feel alone! I completely understand... My surgery is one month away & I have been eating like crazy. I think it has something to do with "thinking" I'm never going to be able to eat certain things again (or at least for a very long time). I'm trying to eat better but this past week has been full of bad choices.

I understand what you are going through. I find my self doing the same thing, some days I'm on a very good diet of fruit, veggies, Protein shakes tons of Water and Vitamins but the next day I'm ordering pizza. I have 32 days until my surgery and I'm not on my per op diet just yet so I think mentally to deal with my stress of the surgery and the fact that I will be without these foods that I love so much for quite awhile, I'm so called "getting it in" while I can.

If it gets to out of hand I take an appetite suppressant to kill the cravings, this always get's me back on track. I know that I'm going to have to take them while I'm on my liver shrinking diet just before my date.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
