My Pre-Op Diet Stinks!

Recommended Posts

Just needed to vent. I am on a ten day liquid diet, surgery is Sept 19. The mind games have begun. I really miss food. I keep thinking... Will I ever be able to enjoy food again??? Will I ever feel full and satisfied??? Do I really want to do this??? I know it's mind over matter at this point. That doesn't make it any easier. I missed work today. Woke up and I was dizzy and lightheaded. Took my meds and realized that I forgot my blood pressure meds yesterday. So today was like a double whammy! Uhgggg! Please tell me it gets better...

Good job on getting this far Jessica :) I'm on day one and feeling that way. Except I'm not on a full liquid diet I get to have a small dinner and nothing but Protein Shakes for Breakfast n lunch. I hope everything gets better :) when I feel like eating I get on here instead it has worked for me so far lol

Thanks... If we can get through this, surgery should be a snap! Every doctor is so different. It doesn't make sense. Some don't have a pre-op diet at all, some can eat a little, some are longer and some are shorter! You would think there would be a bariatric standard for this....IDK...

I am on day 3 of my 14 day liquid routine...i agree...yuksville! I feel so sorry for myself...told dh he could cook outside since weather is nice. I'm thinking after surgery there won't be the hunger...isn't that part of the reason for surgery? My surgery date is Sept 24...a week from next monday! I have been on this road for 18 months...lean green diet last three months (lost 40 pounds). I would give anything for lean green right now. I feel yr pain...heck...i share it!! Lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
