What do you eat?

Recommended Posts

I've been considering the band and am actually coming up on my last 6 month supervised diet visit with my doctor. I've been reading what I can and talking to others but I just want to know what things I will not be able to have after surgery.

We eat out ALOT and mostly eat pizza/tacos/past and I've read alot of people saying they miss having these things. Is that right can you never eat pizza even in small amounts? Will I be able to have these things in small portions or are they just OFF LIMITS?

Any info will help, thanks.

I can eat pizza - just a slice but it takes me about half an hour and it feels the same as if I'd eaten 3 slices! I can eat almost anything.

You generally have control over what you can and can't eat by the amount of restriction you choose have with your band. If you prefer a slower loss but with complete variety, you'll keep a looser band and you'll be able to eat everything, or almost everything. If you're in a rush to lose more efficiently, you'll keep a tighter band and you may lose some flexibility in textures, at least beyond a few bites of the offending texture.

For most people, it's really quite in your control.

i have had my band for 4 years.I totally agree about the level of restriction and how that affects what you can eat.

I choose to not be too tight(for several reasons) I LOVE pizza and cannot imagine a life without it! I too can only eat one piece and i am WAY full.I can eat a bit of salad too and always leave the bones now.You can dip it in Salad Dressing to help it slide or just order a veggies pizza and eat 2 pieces but don;t eat the dough.

I eat anything i want when i want but i have learned moderation.Sometimes if it gross for you food i will try and wait it out.If that doesn;t work i go ahead and have it since it makes the craving go out of my head.I eat enough to be full but not enough to hurt myself.

Ask me anything else if you want.I will be honest about my own experience.I consider myself successful but not at goal and a super way loser.I have had NO single complication and my stomach and band are still healthy.I have never been too tight, don;t know if that makes a difference or if it's just blind luck.

I have never exercised and that is why i still need to lose 30lbs (BUT NOT 100 anymore!!!)))

I have joined a gym(see other post for support) and am on my way to a healthier me because of it.

I can eat anything except bread. pizza is fine if I eat the thin crust. It is very individual as posted earlier. For now, I choose not to be so restricted that I can't hardly eat anything. I know some need it that way, but I am going to try it longer without such restriction.

Good luck to you.

Thanks to all of you who answered. This is my first time to post anything although I've been reading for about 5 months. Everyone seems so friendly and helpful. Thanks again for easing my mind on this. WLS is such a major decision but I need to do something and dieting for years hasn't seem to help. Thanks again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
