RNYKristin 4 Posted September 11, 2012 Before surgery I was always late on my period, and when I would start it would start off with dried blood looking color. Well I am 7 weeks out as of yesterday and I have had 2 periods. They have been on time, heavy and very VERY painful. Is anyone experiencing this or experienced it? Is it normal? Should I be concerned? I have history of PCOS.

Bert_n_ernie 60 Posted September 12, 2012 I have pcos. I'm 2 months post op & have had 2 periods. Starts off looking like old blood. Very heavy! Lots of clots, cramps to the point they push my tampon out (sorry if tmi) so painful (beginning labor anyone?) My period used to last 5 days tops. The 2 since surgery have been 7 & 9 days 5 of which were heavy flow each. New Life Started 07/24/
sunshine413 343 Posted September 12, 2012 Did you all have period issues before surgery? I have always had it relatively easy in that department...should I expect that to change??
Bert_n_ernie 60 Posted September 12, 2012 Did you all have period issues before surgery? I have always had it relatively easy in that department...should I expect that to change?? I have pcos which stands for poly cystic ovarian syndrome. It causes fertility issues. Before I was on meds for it I went 3 years without having a period. My ovaries hurt so bad and I couldn't get pregnant. Once I finally started treatment I got pregnant almost immediately. My periods have always been painful and full of clots but would only last 4 days. Since my surgery I don't have to take the meds but my periods are bad on steroids. kiwiladydee 402 Posted September 13, 2012 My period has been heavier and on no apparent schedule since the surgery. My doc and gyno said it was normal hormone change - and they hurt like hell accompanied with headaches. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
2ndTimesTheCharm 68 Posted September 13, 2012 Did you all have period issues before surgery? I have always had it relatively easy in that department...should I expect that to change?? The only issues I had with my periods before were that they were never on time or sometimes would not come at all and were pretty heavy. The heaviness I'm talking about my latest period is no where near what I had before...when it started it came with no warning and I had to change clothes and stand in the shower for about 30 mins because it was pouring out! Sorry for the TMI but no other way to explain it. I hope we don't all have these issues long term...I thought that surgery would have helped in the pcos department! :/

My doc and gyno said it was normal hormone change - and they hurt like hell accompanied with headaches. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk Thats what my husband said, since we release estrogen when we lose weight it just might be a huge hormonal imbalance issue. I have had a headache for the past 2 days, been on my period for 3. Ugh! Well, it looks like it is pretty common to have messed up periods after surgery. LAME!!! Thank you everyone for your reply. I feel better knowing that i am not alone. But I hate that we have to go through all this. Being a woman sucks sometimes. LOL. 2 2ndTimesTheCharm and Bert_n_ernie reacted to this

2ndTimesTheCharm 68 Posted September 15, 2012 I have another question for you ladies... Once your period has slowed down to spotting, have you ever had a sudden gush of heavy bleeding again?? This happened to me today. I was getting dressed to go run some errands and even though I was wearing a heavy flow overnight pad it soaked right thru it and through my jeans!! A few minutes more it would have happened to me in the street! This is the second time now. I dont have an appt with my surgeon until the 19th and with the GYN until the 27th...Im scared! FinerWoman 90 Posted September 15, 2012 Hopefully, your body is just deep cleansing its self. I go through this every 6 to 7 months. I'm pre op, but before I became a vegetarian my cycle would last for 7 days and I would have a very heavy flow. After I changed my diet and started taking in more nutrients my system did a total turn around and I started having lighter flows with no pain at all. I had them really bad to the point of being just about tied to the bed or the bathroom for three day in crazy pain and big chunks of clots passing non stop. Due the WLS and your new style of eating your systems may be going through that detoxing stage, and after it passes you will have that time of the month become easy breezy. Talk to your doctor, I'm sure that they have seen this time and time again. Best of luck to us all, cause I hate pain! lol
Jordan Bee 13 Posted September 18, 2012 I also have PCOS and very irregular periods including spotting on random days between periods as well. We started the requirements for the surgery in the beginning of June and have changed our diet and started exercising, and since then, I have actually had 2 back to back "regular" cycles-without even having random spotting between them! The first couple of days are incredibly heavy and full of clots, but then that subsides, and things seem, dare I say, normal. So I am hoping that my cycles are starting to regulate out now, even before my surgery.
